The Remains of the Day
Mar. 19th, 2002 11:24 amHey there, all...
So, I only sold 8 shamrocks yesterday...after finding out that last night was the last night to sell them. Apparently, they stop after St. Patrick's Day. Imagine that. ;) Anyway, my grand total is...625! Hopefully, that will be enough to take the top prize. I've already got plans for the DVDs I'll include in the auction if I win the player. :)
Anyway, work was work, and a little bit wet at that, too. It's been pretty wet the past couple of days, now, and while I really like the rain it screws a bit with my plans. No walking on the campus to ask professors about the drama program! No mid-afternoon Gator Golf with Odis! It's really a shame, too, because they're having a spring break special this week. I *demand* that it clears up soon.
Anyway, I'm cleaning out my fridge today; good *LORD*, is that the most fucked-up repugnant shit I've ever seen! :P There was this big black plastic bag filled with some sort of liquid goo stuff that we've been afraid of; mainly because it's a mysterious substance that has been around in that house longer than we have. :P I dispatched of that and covered both crispers in a healthy smattering of bleach water, and scrubbed the spaces in the fridge with Comet. I'll let them marinate for a bit and then scrub them again. Hurrah...being a homemaker sucks. No wonder Martha Stewart seems so bitter.
I'll probably write a letter to my friend Melissa and read a little bit more of "The Stand" before I go to bed finally. I'd like to go to the plasma center sometime today, but that depends largely on whether or not Odis gets his lazy-bum tail up in time for me to go. :)
I went to the University yesterday and talked to a few professors about the Drama and Creative Writing programs. It was OK, but the first impression didn't leave me with a terribly good impression; but then, knowing all of the really screwy stuff that goes on at the University of Arkansas is a big deterrent for going. I really take exception that the image it promotes; everything gets funneled into the sports programs or frats and sororities, and no one really speaks of the academics. I'm not there to watch a fucking football game; I'm there to learn a craft.
I also checked on the Anthropology graduate school for Blackfeather; where he wants to go is a pretty big factor to determine where I'll eventually head to. They've got graduate studies there, but it's not a very big program, and it links in with the Sociology department. The job market for computer programmers and the like here is a joke, too...so far, Arkansas is ranking pretty low. :/
I haven't checked on what's available in Baltimore/Washington or Portland, and I suppose I'll get on that sometime this weekend. It should be better than what's available here; I just don't want to leave Arkansas yet...
Gearing up and stuff to embark on the vow of silence. It should be pretty interesting...I'll probably be taking a break from my LiveJournal for the week, so there'll be one final post tomorrow before the Equinox (1:16 CST, I think) and then I'll be as good as silent for a week.
So...wish me luck, and rejoice in the fact that I'm finally shutting the hell up. :)
