jakebe: (Pissy Bunnies Everywhere!)
Whoo, there's lots of chatter going on about that Pride vs. Progress YouTube video. I was tempted to weigh in with my own two cents, but after feeling the effects of brimstone on broadband connections first- and second-hand, I think I'll shave my commentary down to a few sentences:

I think the reasons most people are having such an adverse reaction to the video are one of the following. A) The argument the video is making, while valid, is very poorly presented, prompting a reactionary, polarized opinion against it. B) People aren't listening to what the argument really *is*. C) Most minorities, at least in my experience (I've belonged in up to four minority groups simultaneously at one point, so my experience is somewhat extensive), are unforgivingly thin-skinned and can't take criticism.

The fellow wasn't saying that pride parades shouldn't happen, aren't useful and can't celebrate the uniqueness of the gay lifestyle. The fellow was saying that engaging in behavior that is inconsiderate, regardless of sexual orientation, under the cover of the 'gay pride' does nothing but alienate the people who need convincing the most -- moderate, regular joes whose closest experience with gay people are these public displays. I don't think it's at all homophobic or self-hating to say "Knock it off with the inflatable cock balloons and public rim jobs, please. It's making the community as a whole look like a bunch of irresponsible, inconsiderate assholes." Granted, the fellow could have presented his argument much, much better than he did, but the sentiment still deserves to be seriously considered.

And finally, people who stoop to being condescending, know-it-all bitches about the whole thing deserve to be stripped of their clothing and fist-fucked by Pat Robertson. Agree or disagree with whatever hot-button topic you choose, there's really no excuse to be a dick about it.

That was more than a few sentences I suppose. :)

Got drunk with [livejournal.com profile] daroneasa last night and watched "Crash," which by the way is one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. It gets better and better every time I watch it. Now, it's easily one of my top three movies. Afterwards, hung out with Joey and Delphi and Silver and Eric for a while, talked to a friend of 2's named Dari (hi!), went out for yet more alcohol and McD's, and came back only to nod off at around 3.

And I woke up at nearly 9, still drunk. Going to work drunk and hungover is an experience I don't relish repeating anytime soon.

For everyone who's worried, I'm fine. Things are finally looking up and I guess this is just me shaking off the last bout of irresponsibility with the opportunity to spin this into an at least mildly amusing story.

There's lots more I want to talk about, including the Burning Man Festival (Tube, dear, we MUST ATTEND ONE OF THESE) and the absolute necessity of being around a positive person at least once per day, but my ride's here and I should go.
