Hey there, all...

So, Charles wants me to start working on Saturdays...the one day of the week I would rather not work at the Bookshop.

His reasons are simple enough. We only have one person working at the store all day, during the busiest day of the week. We're under-manned, and we need someone to work the day. Because there are only three of us who aren't working that day, and the schedules of the other two make it very difficult (Bernadette home-schools a child, and Katy already works Sundays), I'm pretty much the only person who can do it.

There are many many disadvantages to working on Saturdays. For one, it's in that dismal abyss between nightly debaucheries that are Friday and Saturday nights. People would resent having to take me to work after a night of hard drinking very fast.

It would also be a whole lot harder to ask off for weekend trips, since I'd have to request Thursday - Saturday off instead of just the two days before the weekend. Since it's a lot harder to find someone to fill on Saturdays, this definitely cuts down on travel time.

Most weekend activities (breakfast, movies, mini-golf) that we tend to have when company is down would be out for me, and I wouldn't get to enjoy visits from folks nearly as much unless they were willing to stay 'til Sunday or Monday just for me, which is asking a lot.

There are a couple of advantages though:

I'd get to have Sundays and Mondays off, which tend to be quiet days, so I could spend my time writing instead of partying. Life would calm down a bit, so I could use 'boredom' time doing more productive things.

Since I'll be at work or asleep when most folks are partying, spending will go way down, which means that when I actually *do* get off for conventions and friendly visits I'll have money to spend.

As shallow as it sounds, this definitely makes me 'look good' to Charles and Don and I might even get a raise out of it.

Bottom line is, it looks like I'm going to do it, but I'm not going to be terribly happy about it. It's pretty good incentive to bug people to teach me how to drive, and really get on the ball about it, too. The quicker I learn how to drive, the less people have to drive me to work with a hangover. Though I *could* take a taxi to work every Saturday...I don't think it'd be that expensive. At least, until I get my liscense.

[livejournal.com profile] rozberk was down this weekend, and he brought [livejournal.com profile] kendravixen, Heacovu and Cabbit down with him, the latter two I met for the first time. Groovy bunch of guys, all things told. I had a lot of fun with them. :) [livejournal.com profile] flyingfoxsean was down as well for a 'surprise' visit, and Wolphy came down for the beginning of a week-long visit. My, my, we're a busy bunch of folks.

After initial angst and frustration this weekend, I got back on track with writing Sunday. I hope I can continue the trend today, though I don't know. Work is busy, and I might just want to veg when I get home. 2's got a movie for us to watch tonight, and I have a Changeling game to run for <user site="livejournal.com" user="arlekin"> and <user site="livejournal.com" user="aubrin"> when I get home.

It's a really odd feeling to feel joyous and/or content about being depressed, but I was this weekend. More Buddhism taking hold. ;) I'll explain later.
