Yesterday was a stumble, I'll admit. I didn't do much of anything at the day job and didn't actually spend the time doing anything productive. I feel guilty about it, especially since there was no real reason; for some reason the motivation just never came together. I still got some things done, so it wasn't a complete wash. We did go to the gym where I worked out my legs -- and found out that my sweatpants have begun to fray in the crotch.

So that means I'll be searching for new workout gear sooner rather than later, and that calls for a trip to Macy's! At least online, anyway. I could also use some shirts that aren't my typical wear and actually fit a little better, so there's that to look forward to. I don't think I'll get my new fit in time for anything this week, but that's a little treat for later.

Exercise is going pretty well overall. I'm far behind R. and K. as far as weight goes, but I don't mind. It's a great grounding activity that really forces me to pay attention to the body so I can work the muscle groups properly. And I've noticed improvement! It's easier to bend and stand, my posture is a lot better, and I have fewer niggling pain issues in my lower back, shins, hips. The pain I *do* feel is the good kind. I've even missed that!

I've gotten better at pushing past the resistance to hitting the gym. R. is also less inclined to skip days, even when one of us can't make it. As long as two people are available, that's quorum and off we go. K. will even go by himself it comes to that, but thankfully it's been a rare occurrence. Still, I really admire his consistency. It inspires us to be consistent ourselves so we're not letting him down. Once we're at the gym it's all fine. It really is just the effort it takes to drive to the gym blocking us, and since K. is willing to take that on there's really no excuse.

In general we hit the gym three times a week, though I think four times is the actual target. I've supplemented that with a two-mile walk five times a week and between the two activities I think that'll do it for exercise. I would like to get back to running, but I can look into that starting April 2024. I'd like to take the first quarter to settle into a regular gym routine and good eating habits.

I still haven't done *anything* for Christmas. It might be too late to order anything online for it to arrive by the holiday, but I'll still give it a try this week. I realize that it's been a rough year for many people and I'm not expecting an awful lot, but I would at least like to make sure friends feel seen and appreciated this time of year.

For local folks there's always baked goods; I'm very much a novice when it comes to making desserts, and the only way to get good is through practice. What better practice than making a shitload of cookies, pies, and cakes for folks to enjoy? Even if things don't turn out quite like i wanted, they're still desserts aren't they?

That would mean taking some time to buy ingredients, collect recipes, and actually bake the damn things. It would certainly make for a good weekend project, but there are only two more between now and Christmas. If this is the way I'm going, I'd better do it now.
