Burrowing Instinct
Oct. 10th, 2013 10:44 amThe days are starting to get colder and shorter, and I saw my first argyle sweater in the wild. It took a while, but fall is definitely here. We've put the blanket on the bed, and that makes it so much harder to leave in the mornings. But in order to get my day started on the right foot -- with meditation and enough time to do all the little things I want to do in the morning -- I have to wake up a little early.
I'm still struggling to get my act together with so many things -- writing, reading, diet, exercise, work. I know it's a process, building willpower and focus, and I'm trying to give myself enough room to gain more of both steadily. But at the same time, there are so many ambitions and I want to just put my foot on the throttle and go, go, go. It's not advisable, though. History tells me that I'll feel great, over-reach with what I can do, then collapse and miss a bunch of goals all at once. It really is best to under-perform for a while. Smile, breathe and go slowly.
So for now, I have three big goals a day that I'd like to try and do. I can gauge my energy level in the morning to see what I'm up for, then make my decision based on that. Today, I'd like to write the review for my AFI Top 100 movie, finish my bit of fiction (both for the blog on jakebe.com), and knock out the reports that I'll need to finish at work. That'll position me pretty well to try and get a bit more work done on Friday and take it easier on the weekend. We'll see if I manage to get it done, though.
