The Pratfalls of Being Jobless
Aug. 17th, 2006 10:08 amOh dear God, I've fallen into watching Project Runway. The full package of Live with Regis and Kelly, The View, and chocolate something-or-others can't be far behind, I just know it.
I've been taking time to get used to the new 'burrow,' kind of getting a feel for each space in the house. It's taken me a few days, but I'm getting acclimated slowly. I know the spaces I like for writing, meditating, slacking off and the like. Shaving my head is going to be an interesting proposition, but we'll burn that bridge when we come to it. Maybe this is a good excuse to grow my hair out for braids again. Not freaking likely, actually. :)
The apartment complex is actually pretty cool. There are ducks! I have to tell myself not to feed them, because, really, who doesn't want a flock of ducks as your own pack of avian hang-out buddies? There's a Mexican restaurant on premises, right above the resident's center, complete with a small exercise room, pool tables, swimming pools and hot tub and all that business. The resident center kitchen is bigger than ours, which makes me feel just a little jealous. Oh, there are also tennis courts! Hooray! There's a view of them right outside the bedroom window! I've been trying to warm Tube to the idea of a bit of tennis, but he's been resistant so far. Maybe if I can just work my rabbity charms on Mat or Scott... >:)
Went exploring yesterday, found the local supermarket, and there's a Taco Bell and BK within walking distance of my house. I can't quite eat there right now, though, so I'm safe from the usual amount of gorging that would invite. :) So far my diet has improved considerably; most of that's do to concerns with money, but I'd like to think I've been exercising a little self-control. Also, a reproachful glare from Tube works wonders. ;) All in all, things are settling.
Of course, there's homesickness. I miss the Bookshop, and all of my fag hags (you know who you are!), and Odis. I miss talking about RPGs. I miss checking the doors on all of the apartments in the Cube. Arkansas is a great place, as much as people want to knock it. I even say I'm proud to have lived there. So there.
Anyway. Stuff to do today: Find Walgreen's, grab a thing or two. Go to the DMV, get my state ID. Bike to Mountain View, look up the bookshops in the area. And finally, when home, continue those critiques I promised people months ago. :)
