It's You I Love
Jul. 7th, 2006 08:19 amYoinked a new icon of Kermit flailing. I love it so. :D
So, according to Google Maps, the walk to work is about 3.5 miles....as the crow flies, anyway. With all the hills and stuff I imagine it's a wee bit more. Not quite the undisputed 4 miles I was hoping for, but pretty darned close.
Yesterday I walked to work, and walked back home. The walk back wasn't so bad, started getting a small blister on one toe and there were a few pains here and there. I think it's mostly because I'm not used to walking quite so much; what's sad is I used to be. I walked all over the place and everywhere. Knowing so many people with cars has made me lazy. ;) Anyway, that's about 7 mile, at least three times a week, hopefully more once I get acclimated. Not a bad little routine.
Last night, for dinner, I had a turkey sandwich and the Best Fries Ever. And the second biggest bowl of Marshmallow Mateys ever. For those not in the know, Marshmallow Mateys is the 'cheap' knock-off of Lucky Charms, only with kangaroos and pirates. How in the world could you go wrong??
Spent the 4th with
belly4you and
shiftyjoe and MattDragon, indulging in a Cillian Murphy movie marathon, way more meat than should be healthy, and my first ever chance to mess around with fireworks. One particularly lively rocket thingie shot right past my head, nearly setting the bunny ears I wore specifically for the occasion on fire. OMG so fun! :D
Mariah has been told by Charles to do as much of my work as possible in the next month, since...well, this is the time we'd normally devote to training the newbies to hand off our sections. This isn't really a bad thing, but it leaves me with a lot more 'free time' at work than I'm comfortable with having. Largely, it makes me feel replaceable, but then that's something I've known for a while now. I loved my job and consider myself fairly good at it, but...well, everyone there knows the score. The Bookshop is greater than anyone person, no? Now that I'm faced with the very real visual facts that...well, I'm leaving, and people are already positioning for my absence, it brings everything home in the most real way yet.
There's so much to do. I have to draw up a resume for the University in San Jose, and another one for this used bookshop in Mountain View that is apparently interested in me. I've literally never done one of those before, so I have my work cut out for me. :) I'm very sure I can make my bookshop stint sound appropriately impressive, but before that I've been in a string of mall jobs and one particularly long, depressing stint as a convenience store clerk. It's hard to elevate that to an asset without being obvious about the bullshit.
There's also books to sort and pack, clothes to keep or give away, food here to eat, posters and framed pictures to find tissue paper and close boxes for...holy shit, I'm moving.
Bittersweet is one of my favorite flavors.
