Six Habits
May. 2nd, 2006 09:55 amI was tagged for this a while ago, and since I should be writing something else, this is a good form of procrastination.
1. I pick my nose. Not so much weird as kinda gross, but maybe the fact that it's mostly a nervous habit will. Also, I have embarrassingly long nose hairs that tickle.
2. Because of number 1, I wash my hands pretty frequently. At least six or seven times a day, but almost certainly more than that. I handle a lot of books, and dirt accumulates quickly. Besides, it's...rejuvenating to me. It's a small thing to make the world new throughout the day, a trick to refocus on the here and now. And to make sure my hands are clean. ;)
3. When I sit down to eat, I almost always have to have a sweet dish and a salty dish. This leads to pretty bizarre combinations, depending on the demands my palate makes of textures and whatnot. They include chicken fingers and french toast, cheeseburger and pancakes, oatmeal and popcorn, yogurt and pretzels, turkey sandwich and Lucky Charms.
4. Whenever I get depressed, I intentionally read books or watch movies I know will make me cry. It's cathartic and the best way I've come up with to snap out of a depressive streak. It reminds me that other people are suffering too, in fact everyone is in some way or another, and that compassion is needed with whomever you're dealing with.
5. At work, I tend to adopt a system of 'rewards' for getting work done; shelve this stack of books, play three holes of golf on my cell phone. Straighten this section, raid the cookie jar in the kitchen for five cookies. Fill these orders, grab a cup of coffee. It works surprisingly well, ensures I do work quickly and efficiently and pretty much gives me *something* to look forward to all day.
6. When I'm shopping for groceries, I put whatever I want into my cart. When it comes time to checkout, I go through the store one more time, putting back all the things I don't think I really need.
Bonus! Also, I seem to be very attracted to dominant personalities, only to be repulsed by them for some reason later down the road.
In other news, with all the talk about United 93 I thought I would just have to go to the movies last night. So we (
daroneasa and I) went to see Akeelah and the Bee. It's a movie about a *spelling bee*. C'mon, who couldn't love that? It's a really excellent movie, and abotu more than a spelling bee. Kind of typically feel-good, but it's really well-done anyway. I think we got into it more because we were both *in* those environments as children; Daro used to do Competitive Quiz Bowls and I was in math and spelling bees through middle school. The pressure is really intense, with all the lights and the people, and folks staring at you waiting for the right answer. It's not the best place in the world to build character, but Akeelah manages to anyway. It's a beautiful thing, really.
In yet other news, I finally broke down and got a FurAffinity account, if only to finally be able to see all those things people point me towards. When I'm finally ready to show off stories or descriptions or whatever, they'll go up there in addition to
writerrabbit.
Anyway, time to get ready for work. Whoo! Check out my new icon! ;)
