Last night, watched "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" with [livejournal.com profile] bamboofae, [livejournal.com profile] arlekin, [livejournal.com profile] shiftyjoe and [livejournal.com profile] belly4you. Hey, all of my Buffy friends have LiveJournals now! Maybe we should make a group of it and call ourselves "The Scoobies."

"Angel" is continuing to be a rather serviceable show; they're pulling really nifty tricks and the character development of Cordelia and Wesley is really interesting to watch. Angel is...Angel. To me he seems to be an inert tentpole to hold everything together. He broods about Buffy, or he broods about Darla, or he tries to help damsels in distress...and that's about it. Even Gunn seems to have better moments than our resident vampire. Here, the sun isn't nearly as interesting as its satellites.

"Buffy," on the other hand, is just incredible to watch. The character interactions are so tangled and wonderful, and the writers are doing an excellent job of handling a fairly large cast. A few of them aren't billed as 'regulars,' but they really are. Spike is adorable, Xander and Anya click so well, Dawn has settled in surprisingly well given her entrance, and Joyce's story is amazing. It's very interesting to me how something as 'mundane' as a character falling ill can become such a special thing; Buffy had no idea what to do with it, because a brain tumor isn't something you can give a stake or roundhouse kick. Though she's come a long way as a Slayer, she's still got a long way to go as a person.

We're up to the part of the season where she breaks up with the hated Riley. Honestly, I think she messed up with him, even if he was about as exciting as white toast, without butter. And what was up with the whole "I let vampires suck my arm so I can feel needed" thing? I've never seen something *that*...emo. I'm pretty sure those vamps were sucking tears, not blood.

Anyway...Buffy spaz!

I did a small bit of kitchen cleaning this morning, mostly setting the dishes up for easy rinsing and dishwashing when I come home. [livejournal.com profile] arlekin's W:tA game is tonight, which promises to be a fun time. Since Odis isn't here for our usual Friday dinner, I'll catch the bus home, stop by the bank to deposit my paycheck (direct deposit would be so handy) and stop by Harp's to pick up a pizza or two. Nothing goes with merlot quite so well as store-bought pizza. Yum.

Trying to get back into the groove of writing, which really isn't so hard. The bad thing is I'm usually too scatterbrained for many habits to actually stick, but I'm very good at picking up where I left off and running with it. With Thanksgiving coming up shockingly fast (Hey [livejournal.com profile] sabrewing, when can we expect you?), I doubt I'll be able to get "Grey Warming Over" done before I leave for CA, but thankfully I'll have plenty of time to work on it while I'm on vacation. I'll see if I can borrow a friend's flash drive to shuttle files back and forth between Carson and the Nameless Portable Thing(tm).

Life is good. The holiday season begins next week, and I get to see my lovely in two. :)
