No Peeled Havanas
Oct. 14th, 2005 11:30 amAgain with the staying home. Charles was pretty firm about it, too, or else I would sneak in this afternoon. I feel so useless right now.
On the bright side, I finally managed to get a doctor who would take me -- it turns out more than half of the offices I called wouldn't even see me because I was uninsured. What kind of bullshit is that? I really, really hate the state of health care in this country.
It turns out there's a small practice right down the street from where I work. I walked in, filled in a sheet of paper, got my temperature taken, ears and throat looked at, and the doctor put a stethoscope to my back while asking me a bunch of questions. He diagnosed me with bronchitis, signed a work excuse slip, and prescribed me antibiotics and an expectorant. The whole process took 20 minutes. I was charged $65. Which, believe me, I know is getting off easy...but it still puts an added crunch into my finances I don't need. The medicine, by the way, totalled $32. $97...for bronchitis. I can't even imagine what a broken arm costs.
This means that I'm going to have to get creative with budgeting again, try to spend as little as humanly possible and call Mom to tell her she'll be getting money late this month (after getting nothing last month).
I cancelled my cabin for Oklacon, since there's only two of us going. That's also really depressing, but for entirely different reasons.
Thanks to all the well-wishers and people who have helped with mood and other things this week. I really appreciate you all. :)
