I spent the entire weekend, pretty much, watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I had seen four episodes of the show before hand, but we polished off the last eight(?) or so eps on Saturday and Sunday. I have to say my favorite episode of the entire season was "Nightmares," just because it was so smartly-written, genuinely funny and scary and exciting all at the same time. "Out of Mind, Out of Sight" was actually very interesting, too, and the 'stock horror ending' was genuinely spine-chilling. That and "Prophecy Girl" (the last two episodes of the season) display surprising depth in the characters and I could see how critics would be all "Woah, hang on..." about the series after that point. I don't think Joss *really* hits a groove with things until the last three episodes. The others are enjoyable and entertaining, sure, but you don't get the sense that the show has really good *potential* until then.

I'm already looking forward to the start of season two. :) Yeah, yeah, I'm hooked. I'll probably have to see "Angel" when I finish as well, just because they're so interconnected.

Also put the finishing touches on the new Linux box, so that now I can pretty much do everything I could in Windows. The CD ripper works painfully slow (0.5x) but that's something I think I can deal with all right. Now comes the monumental task of reripping my entire CD collection. It's not as big as some, but it's fairly sizable and with things running as slow as they do, it'll take a little while. Eliahn will be happy to note that the ripping program saves everything in Vorbis .ogg. :)

Question: will a burned CD full of .ogg files play in most CD players? I mean, is it still one of those weird underground things that won't work as well as mp3 as far as compatibility goes?

Sorry things have gotten so geeky in here for the last little bit. I'm all a-flush with the excitement of learning something new. :)

Speaking of new, Odis and I played a one-shot, one-on-one game with Odis on Friday night. We gamed for quite some time, but I was still a bit hungover from the Mom situation and maybe didn't like it at the time as much as I would have otherwise. Basically, I played the scribe in the party that was sent to hunt down my main character, Lucas, for being a werebear. This little sadistic turn of events brought great pleasure to Odis and others at the Beating as he recounted how my mousy, legally-blind protagonist was beset upon by very rude Gilderoy-Lockhart inquisitors (our nickname for him was 'Cleric McCleftchin') and a burgeoning pack of wererats. Friar Lildon and I were very nearly turned, and that would have pissed me off greatly. My distaste for wererats is perhaps too well-documented. :)

This week, hopefully I can settle down to the point where I can start writing again and get caught up at work. I've been procrastinating on re-installing Windows on the work machine, but I'm going to have to get it done before I head up to Kansas City weekend after next. Which means...this weekend. ;) I'm going to focus on getting all the books out today so I can mess around with duplicates and the computer for the rest of the week. I'll try the re-install this Sunday, I promise.

Also on deck: fighting the homeless and similarly destitute for a dental appointment at the Free Clinic this Thursday. My wisdom teeth are in very very bad shape. They need to come out. I can't afford to have the surgery any other way, really. Wish me luck.

Now, laundry, food and work.
