I have a sudden hankering for classic literature. I think I might try to read Ralph Ellison's "Invisible Man," or Albert Camus' "The Stranger, or even "The Alchemist' by Paul Coelho. I have a ton of Bradbury I haven't touched, too, and "Mother Night" by Kurt Vonnegut. Hmmm. Decisions, decisions...

I tried plowing my way through "Spacepaw" by Gordon R. Dickson, which is this fish-out-of-water sci-fi adventure story about a human who takes up the Earthman's burden to civilize and advance primitive races. I got it mainly because the race in question is one of ten-foot-tall bears who supposedly have a culture based on the Vikings. I mean, with a setup like that, you can't go wrong, right?

Well, I guess so. The great idea is kind of ruined by shoddy writing. But hey, not like I could do much better. Maybe someday.

At work, Charles has decided to go with a CD-RW drive so we can back everything up onto discs. I rather like this idea, because it means I get to actually use tried and true methods...there's a lot of static floating around on the flash drive idea (which I like, but I don't know enough about it to be *sure* on), so I'd better play this one safe. It wouldn't do to have to take *another* thing back.

At home, I didn't do much with Linux yesterday. Silver suggested I try the liveCD that comes with Ubuntu, so I did. It didn't work. So now I'm thinking it *is* both CD drives. I'll swap them out over the weekend to see if that makes things go any more smoothly. I also have Mandrake and Red Hat to play around with in the meantime.

I love you all. :) Thanks so much for the support and suggestions, it's really making this all a lot less scary.
