"Zen is like a spring coming out of a mountain. It doesn't flow out in order to quench the thirst of a traveler, but if the travelers want to help themselves to it, that's fine. It's up to you what you do with the water; the spring's job is just to flow." --Alan Watts, The Way of Zen

Check out Tyler Durnden, sending inspirational messages to colleagues and coworkers.

I'm really enjoying The Way of Zen by Alan Watts, if you couldn't tell. :) He has a few very amazing ideas about the nature of space and how we view it, that I would spazz about a bit more coherently if I had the time and/or inclination at the moment. I don't, though.

I'm also quite addicted to "Futures," by Jimmy Eat World; the album grows on me a little more every time I listen to it. Right now, I'm completely enamored with the songs "Work" and "The World You Love," though the title track is a very close runner-up for favorite. I'm afraid it's turned into a bit of a guilty pleasure, though, since I've found out that JEW is officially 'emo.' It makes me wonder what *other* emo bands I've been listening to and never knowing it. (Modest Mouse?)

Speaking of suspect-emo bands, R.E.M.'s new album "Around The Sun" reminds me an awful lot of "Out of Time" in that they get kind-of popular urban artists to commit a few stanzas of elevator-rap through a particular track and it's not nearly as good as the albums before, which were brilliant. "Automatic for the People" and "Reveal" are aguably two of their absolute best albums, and both "Out of Time" and "Around the Sun" seem like a musical hangover, some sort of burnout that comes after an undeniably orgasmic experience. Of course, it could be that I'm just being unfair to the album since JEW grabbed my ear a lot more on first impression. "Electron Blue" is a pretty cool song, and maybe it'll just take a while to grow on me.

Here is a list of things I would like to do this week.

+ Catch up on e-mail, especially an e-mail RP that's been stagnating for way too long.
+ Write/revise two poems.
+ Begin rabbit-proofing the room.
+ Try to consolidate two computers for one desk.
+ Mail [livejournal.com profile] foxen_alopex's Australia Day present. (Yes, it'll get there late, deal with it.)
+ Also, fight with a shark but let it live watch my NetFlix movies!
+ Oh, and exercise.
+ Yes, and clean the room.

I should stop now before I begin to despair. :)
