Sunday Weigh In
Aug. 26th, 2007 09:08 pmWeight: 166.6
Time: 32:01
Distance: 2.85 miles
Top Speed: 6.0 mph
Calories: 288
I lost 3.4 pounds this week, though a lot of that could be water weight and/or clothing. If I lose more by next Sunday, then I'll put more stock into things.
I didn't run Friday like I promised myself I would; this is largely due to the fact that I left my iPod at work, and there were rather pressing social commitments that would have made it a lot more complicated than it should have been. There's a small twinge of guilt, but nothing too major; I feel a lot guiltier about my diet this weekend.
Nonetheless, I stuck it through today, though I had Independence Day there to distract me. That really didn't work, so I started to be more vocal, encouraging myself with a series of small goals. 10 laps (each lap is a quarter mile). 25 minutes. 250 calories. You're doing great, just five more minutes. Stuff like that. Surprisingly, it worked. Not only did I make it the full thirty minutes before cooling down, I was almost glowing with accomplishment there at the end.
Now that I'm nearly in the habit of running on a regular basis, I can turn my attention to other things. Namely, diet. Don't get me wrong, I'm doing all right on that front, but there's always more I *could* be doing. While eating at the Adobe cafe makes it really easy (but expensive) to eat well, it should be a matter more of habit than convenience to make good eating choices. If I should ever lose my job, heavens forbid, will I start only eating at fast food places?
So I'll concentrate more on taking food from home, which means I'm directly responsible for what I eat. Most of the time this means a modest lunch of a sandwich, some chips and cookies or yogurt, but hopefully once I get into *that* habit I can start being a bit more ambitious. Grilled chicken with honey mustard dressing, miso soup and fruit salad, for example. That would just rock the casbah.
One thing I've noticed is I've finally gotten into the habit of drinking mostly water, and this pleases me. Whenever I feel thirsty, the first thought is grabbing a bottle of water. I always could have soda, or cranberry juice, but it's just not as satisfying any more. Whenever I want to take a break from the norm, I tend towards tea or wine, with a daily cup of coffee. I'd put my soda count at maybe two cans a week, at most.
Next session: Wednesday.
