Hallelujah!

Nothing much to report. Writing is hard. Work is hard. I'm dedicated to doing both. That is all.

OH! And a happy (belated) birthday to [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] palabrajot and [livejournal.com profile] astor_apatosaur! For some time (not too) many years ago, the gods were just on the ball. :)
jakebe: (Happy Bad Rabbit!)
You know, for some reason I am having an entirely Rabbit day. Cravings for salads, wanting to curl up and doze, and generally thinking that spats are the best clothing accessory ever. Also feeling very envious of things that have soft fur. *bristle*grrr*

Other than that, it's work as usual. True Crime got an Extreme Makeover (without, alas, Ty Pennington) because we bought somewhere around 20 - 30 titles of it. It never sounds like a lot, but when you're actually trying to find space for it, it's an absolute nightmare. That took the entire morning and half of the afternoon. And now, I get to put away poetry books I don't have room for!

Three times today, someone has commented on how Tardis-like our Bookshop is. I'm beginning to think I should find a good Dr. Who getup over the winter and adopt it. It'd be questionable as to whether or not I could pull it off, but any excuse to dress in a three-piece suit....

School is back in session, and this means a bunch of clueless college students asking why we don't sell textbooks. I could go on all day about this, but the short of it is there's another bookshop up the street that calls itself the Dickson Street Book Exchange, and freshmen (and sophomores...and seniors, for that matter) frequently confuse us. This means we get literally dozens of calls every day this week asking for this or that textbook for the U of A or NWACC, and we have to explain as patiently as possible that we don't carry textbooks, have never carried textbooks, and they are most likely thinking of the store up the road. The patience wears thin when said college kid, who more than likely has never come to Dickson Street for any other purpose than to drink beer, insists that we *must* sell them because we're the Dickson Street Bookshop. At the end of the day, you would like nothing more than to freeze small cans of Guinness, load them into an elephant gun, and calmly shoot anyone who even has the remote stink of the Greek system anywhere on them.

But that's not very charitable thinking, is it? :)

I have an idea(!) for a poem that I'll have to sit down and bang out tonight. I really ought to get to revising the poems I've written, but I'd like to bang out at least ten before the month is out. Right now, I only have 5. I'm fairly sure I can make the goal, but there's a lot of other writing I'd like to get done, too.

Tonight I'll see if I can manage to get some salady stuff from Harp's. I really want something with lettucs, cherry tomatoes, shredded carrots, green peppers, sunflower seeds and maybe just a *little* bit of sharp cheddar, lightly kissed with Italian dressing. Yes, I do believe that will do nicely. :9

Grill up some chicken breast, cook some rice, and we have dinner!

Oh, and I plan on doing the Bohemian-wannabe thing: drink wine, and watch "Brazil." Life is good to me. :)
