Hey there, all...

So I walked (rushed) out of my door today was immediately slapped in the face by that little je ne sais quoi in the air that tells you fall is coming in fast. It was such an immense thrill that I nearly dropped everything and soaked up as much as I could. But then I would have been late for the bus and my day wouldn't have been nearly as happy, so I soaked and walked at the same time.

Fall (Autumn is an even better word, actually) is my absolute favorite time of year. It has that same feeling that a party does at 4 a.m., when everything's winding down but you and just a few other people aren't ready to go home just yet. So you sit there and talk and drink and smoke and stave off the inevitable for as long as you can. But in the back of your mind, you know it's almost time to go home.

The whole world is shrinking right now. The days are getting shorter, turning inward on themselves, and all the life and bustle and extravagance of summer is beginning to run out. The party's over, and things are winding down. You can watch secrets forming in autumn, with the leaves turning, then dropping, with acorns and nuts disappearing, with the brief appearance of some animal darting to get that last bit of food he'll have no idea where he stashed later. :) It's time to slow down, stop going to barbeques and turn in. Reflection is one of my favorite activities when I'm looking out the window and all I see is the entire world starting to hibernate for another year.

Heh. Autumn also inspires people like me to fumble for the right order of words and metaphor to really get what it's all about. :) It just can't be done, though; autumn is just a wonderful time of year. There's no time I don't feel more connected with everything around me than in the fall. Even the depressions are tinged with a deep and satisfied contentment. :)

I bought Siddhartha today, so look for more Hesse-spazzing. <:) And the Dickson Street Bookshop was named Best Bookstore in Northwest Arkansas! There's an ad in the Fayetteville Free Weekly with my name on it. I'm so proud. *sniff* Indian food is coming, and I want to be ready for it.

So, Indian food was pretty good. There were these little round white cakes that may or may not have been made from couscous, with some green and white saucy stuff and a few cucumbers. Those were kind of blah; maybe they're an acquired taste. But man, the curry-soup stuff was terrific. :9 I never knew cauliflower could be so tasty!

Hey there, all...

Mr. Charmander wins the prize: a free wooden chicken!

I actually got a new pocketwatch today. :D I'm very proud of it, it's gold and mechanical and oh-so-shiny. It is my precious. :D I've missed having a pocketwatch so much; I'm going to see if the folks at WalMart can fix the 'door' on my other watch. It's a really spiffy one, and I liked wearing it with the right pants.

Got the first assignment for Mustsy done. I'm not very happy with it; it doesn't really do much in the way of interaction, and I think the way the setting is expressed the ideas I wanted to display are handed to you. I'd like to fool around with it a bit more, maybe try to tell the story with dialogue, see what I can bring out of the characters with that.

Anyway, here it is. )
