The Bridge on the River Triumphant
Nov. 6th, 2001 01:32 amHey there...
Today, work was work. Blah. More selling cigarettes to the same college kids. On the bright side, Sherri was 'terminated' for stealing cigarettes and money out of my wallet. Hoohah! Sherri was a crack-head, so she needed the cigarettes to sell for money to buy crack...or something. She also stole a lot of bacon.
Anyway, she was replaced by a fellow I know from a while back. His name is Justin, but everyone calls him Safety. He's a pretty neat guy; he's done a lot of travelling, he's got a boatload of stories to tell, and well...he's got connections. That's all I'll say about that. All in all, he's leagues better than Sherri. So that was a bright spot.
In other news, I built my very own writing desk!! :D Well, maybe not built, but Joey and I brough a student computer desk from WalMart, and I put the whole thing together pretty much by myself. Of course, it being me, there are all sorts of flaws and imperfections, but I like them. Ultimately, it's something I accomplished by myself, and I know why every little groove, dent and bust-up is there. It makes me happy. ;)
I plan to do a lot of writing on it, with some drawing if the pads fit onto the surface. Since it was meant for a computer workstation, it's got all sorts of little compartments, nooks and crannies that towers and printers and scanners and everything are supposed to go into...it doesn't have that wide-open surface you need for art. We'll see how it works out.
I've been kinda gearing up mentally for Rammadan. I've never really consciously tried to 'deny' myself before, at least to this extreme, for so long, so I'm kind of nervous. I'm almost *certain* I'm going to be grumpy for the first few days, even with the meditations and everything I'm planning. Which reminds me; I guess I'm gonna have to get the names, addresses and phone numbers of all the people I want to keep in touch with. I'll probably be writing a lot of letters and working on Christmas gifts during the month. :)
I've also been reading the Tao Teh Ching, loaned to me graciously from Arlekin. I bought the Tao of Pooh on Saturday at the Dickson Street Bookstore (gods, you can get lost in there!), so he loaned me the 'original' so I might understand the Pooh book better. It's kinda like reading Christian propaganda without reading the Bible first, I suppose...
Oh, and I got my spot on Keenspace today! Hurrah! Now that I have a home for the comic strip, I guess that means I have to get to work on the actual comic. ;P I have the story for the first two months all planned out, but I *really* need to try and learn how to draw so that the strip looks at least...recognizable until I start to get better. Hmm, all this effort...
Add to that two short stories due by January, and a web-based Choose Your Own Adventure story I'd really like to get done by Christmas, and you've got a fairly busy me. I really hope I can actually get myself together enough to pull everything off.
Putting together the writing desk is a good rallying point...
