In The Holy Dark
Sep. 1st, 2004 07:06 amI had a very strange, vivid dream last night. It was about California, and people who were actually places, and longing, and how longing caused people to do the worst things, and how the Divine always, always forgave them for it. I woke up with the words "The Lord forgives you" on my lips. I'm pretty certain the Pacific Ocean, Neil Gaiman, C.S. Lewis, Albert Camus, Rufus Wainwright, Adam Duritz, Raven and my chickeny-red sauce-pasta bachelor chow contributed to this odd soup, but that's fine. Food poisoning is often inspiring.
I didn't offer well-wishes to the folks I know in Florida during the last hurricane, but after checking up on Francis this looks like it's going to be bad. So, everyone in Florida, please put tape on your windows, and make sure you have lots of chocolate and popcorn and candles to make it through all right? I'm sure standard preparations call for a lot more but make sure you have the important stuff in, at the very least. Really, though, take care. Get out if you can, and if you can't enjoy the show. :)
Chances are I'll be off-line for about a week, for the most part. NARFA's source of Internet is going down, and our contingency plan didn't quite pan out. I'll probably sneak-check things from work, but I don't expect to be doing much in the way of substantial communication. I *did* have a laptop to take down to the local coffee-house, but it looks like the light for the monitor busted; don't know if it's fixable or not, but either way I don't really have the money to do anything about it. :) So...take care for a week or so.
Yesterday was my first day back to work, and it didn't turn out so badly. There were a lot of books to put out and things were little changed from my stint away. It was a *long* day, but I muddled through...somehow. ;) It's almost impossible for me to feel bad, or depressed, about much at this point. Yesterday could probably be considered an official bad day, but it didn't feel like one, so it wasn't. If that makes any sense.
Anyway, thanks to everyone I met in Austin and California who made the trip so awesome. You guys contributed to one of the more amazing experiences of my life. :)
