What did I do this weekend?

NOTHING.

Do I feel bad about it?

Only a little.

Back to the daily grind, and working on all the things I've meant to over the weekend. Everything else is in place, even the drive. Just not the effort. Bah. I am such a flake. :)

Saw "Lost In Translation" on Saturday and "High Art" on Sunday. They were both very much alike in terms of execution; very little to no 'incidental' music (thanks Reah!), reserved acting and detail-filled scenes. There wasn't much in the way of resolution or closure in either film, they just sort of...stopped. One very interesting bit in "Lost In Translation" though; Bill Murray's character stops Scarlett Johannson's character on the street to whisper something in her ear at the very end. No one knows what was said, but apparently it was exactly what was needed. It gave the moment this feel of...convergence, where everything came together in this one, perfect moment. I really liked that. The ending to "High Art" sucked big donkey balls, and probably ruined the movie for me. Maybe I'll see it again sometime later.

Now that I've seen "Lost In Translation" I'm really not sure Murray should get the Best Actor nod he's heavily favored to get. Like Adam Sandler in "Punch-Drunk Love" it's really just the actor doing what he does in a different setting. Maybe because all of the values around him have changed, we can see different aspects of his work, different strengths and flaws, what makes him 'him' in a way we've never seen before, but there was no extraordinary effort put into it. It wasn't as...heavy as say, Kevin Spacey's work in "American Beauty" or Ewan MacGregor's work in "Moulin Rouge", or even as incredible as Jim Carrey's work in "Man on the Moon". The movie itself was good, but not that good. I think it's benefitted quite a bit from the hype machine surrounding it. Then again, maybe it *is* that special, and I just missed the spark. My eye is relatively untrained after all.

There won't be a game this Friday, but I do have a Changeling game on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to it; I left everyone in a sort of cliffhanger moment that I could have carried off better, but I'll make up for it with the beginning of this game. I hope. Maybe this time, I'll remember to bring the music.

Still behind on e-mail. And a lot of other things. Life is all about playing catch up though. :)
