Poem: Why We Do It
Feb. 4th, 2004 06:12 pmThe first poem I wrote after reading the book "Poemcrazy." I don't know what to think about it, really.
*****
Why We Do It
Because to us, it's always the storm's eye.
Because things need to be remembered.
Because the fires are too great,
and all of the faces, passing through like gulping fish --
all of them have something to say.
Because of the millions of dizzied pointed ten-fingers
waving like ticker-tape in the hailfire
and all of the pictures waiting on the tips of every single one.
They all need to be remembered.
If you're going to get started, it's best to be still
because you never really know why
and too many tickers ruin a parade.
