A currency unrelated to money
Jan. 9th, 2004 10:32 amSans quotes, for Frenziewolf. :)
Almost immediately upon writing the big BE post I realized just how fixated I was being on having it my way. This can be a good thing sometimes, don't get me wrong, but in this case it limited my view of how Boomer Express should go.
I'm actually very surprised that it was so self-centered. It didn't seem that way at the time, but it was. My issue was just in relation to 'me' and 'mine,' without looking at the strip from a more objective viewpoint. I discounted Tyrnn's opinion and influence because it wasn't my own, because it's not the way I would have done it.
Taking the blinders off with this particular situation, I can see where else that kind of thinking pops up. The main reason I dislike Vampire: the Masquerade is because it's not the kind of game I would play. I don't like politics, I don't like vampires, I don't like angsty, gothic socialites bemoaning the existential nature of their supernatural existence, so I don't play it.
Yes, that's what Vampire has become, that doesn't mean it has to be that way. Just like a more comedic Boomer Express doesn't have to be a bad thing. I can work with both in that context and still have fun with it. Really, Tyrnn's ideas for BE are not inherently bad or off-putting, it's my perception that's making them so.
So, with that realized, I'm going to rewrite next week's strips to see if I can form it more to that kind of style, while still making sure the characters ring true. Something tells me I could watch a lot of "Buffy" for this, and thankfully Virginia has most of the series so I can start watching it over the weekend.
Oh, and the Sabbat Vampire LARP is suddenly looking...better, now. I have a good concept now, so I'll be reconfiguring his stats and writing up a good background, and we'll see where it flies.
Not all I wanted to say, but I have to keep this short since I'm at work, and I need coffee.
