Forcing Chrysalis On Three Poor People
Jan. 1st, 2002 12:10 pmHey there all...
The holidays have been pretty hectic for me, as you can tell from lack of posting and all. ;) It doesn't really look like the fun's gonna stop any time soon, since I've got two short stories that I absolutely *must* finish before the month is out, Christmas presents I still have to mail, and I also have to learn how to draw and single-handedly take down a small Third World nation. :)
Oddly enough, I'm ready for it.
Lately, the stretches of confidence and optimism are getting steadily longer, while the bits of depression and hesitancy are much less severe. I mean, I still get a vague sense of melancholy (how can you not when Bush is president?), but overall I feel really good thse days. If not happy, at least content.
Let's see...how did I spend New Year's? ;)
Well, I got back into Fayetteville from St. Louis at around 8 pm, and Chaser and Eric were there. Arlekin came over, followed by two surprise guests...Aubrin and Rozberk! I have to say I didn't expect either of them over at all. I got the slightly downer news from Arlekin that Aaron has to work all day today, so we won't have a New Year's game of the Nameless as I had planned...ah well, just gives me a bit more time to get other things done I guess. ;)
We watched bad movies and rang in the New Year's with a couple shots of whiskey. I must say Aberlour is a bit disappointing, all things considered. You'd expect something as impressive-sounding as "Single Malt Scotch Whiskey Aged 10 Years In A Sherry Cask" to taste a bit better. :P Well, at least it was potent. ;)
We ended up watching The Terrornauts and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before everyone crashed and burned on the various futons and floor space available. Poor Joey and I were kicked out of our beds by Roz, Aubrin and Delphi (another surprise guest!), but it was mucho worth it to have everyone together.
Now, I've got work tonight, and the routine goes pretty much back to normal.
Ah! New Year's Resolutions...most people don't really care about them, but seeing as how black people are a superstitious lot I decided to make some anyway.
1. Save money from every paycheck.
This should be obvious, but to a notorious money-waster like me...I made more money last year than ever, but I've got nothing to show for it really save for new books and stuff. This year, I'm going to try and be a bit more frugal.
2. Buy one piece of art with every paycheck.
Be it art commission, CD, book or movie, there's *always* something that inspires me. Now it's time to show a little appreciation in the form of currency for it.
3. Be kinder to my friends.
I don't know if anyone else notices it (I'm pretty sure there's at least one or two out there who'd agree whole-heartedly), but I feel kind of bad for treating friends like shit sometimes. I can be distant, boring and non-communicative sometimes, and I think that people who I'm close to deserve better. ;) So there you go.
4. Keep my Word.
I think I've done a pretty good job of this this past year, but I want to make it set in stone. My word has come to mean everything to me.
5. Enjoy life.
Yes, life is a big festering pile of maggot-ridden shit sometimes. It certainly doesn't mean it's not fun. :) I've been doing pretty good with this, too, but I just want to make it even *more* important. All things considered, I've got it good.
OK, that's it. A game summary of The Nameless will be up later today, hopefully. Until then!
