We're bracing for a hot couple of days -- 90 today and 95 tomorrow is the forecast, which means 100+ is a real possibility.

I'm trying to set my expectations properly, which means drinking a lot more water today and prepping the house to be as cool as possible. The real problem is how hot the office gets in the late afternoon. I think the sun is shining in through those windows then, and it's simply the hottest part of the day.

I might end up heading to the office with R. tomorrow just to spare the electricity in the place. Depending on how miserable it'll be, we might fire up the air conditioner one last time so it's proper cool by the time we get back. At any rate, I'm trying to find a way to be productive despite the heat while also recognizing it's going to put a hitch in my step. Understanding that "my best" over the next two days will be...not like my best as it was on Monday and this doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing thing.

Yesterday wasn't great as far as productivity went. Nothing really happened as far as I can tell; I just woke up on my back foot and couldn't find a way to hit my stride. Work was a bit of a slog through some frustrating issues that were dishearteningly easy to solve -- it's just a matter of knowing which things to right-click on the proprietary ticketing system we're using. There's no documentation for Service Manager, so the only way you can really learn how it works is by asking a coworker.

The problem there is that my coworkers aren't keen on training me; they insist that my manager do it, but her dance card is over-full as it is. I'll have to sync with her about that because I don't want to take up more of her time than I have to, but I also want to figure out how to do this in a relatively reasonable time. I'd also love to write a primer on the application from the ground up, but that might be a project to tackle after the New Year.

For now it's enough to learn my basics as best I can. I'm getting more comfortable with my process and I'm interested in refining it for efficiency. Next month, I'll focus on getting myself up to fighting shape, so to speak, so that I can manage 20 certs per day by the beginning of December. It's ambitious given where I am now, but I think with enough diligent effort I can make it.

I didn't get any writing in yesterday. I was behind on the day job all day and thought it might be better to focus on that. I still didn't get MUCH done, but I do think it was the right use of my time. Now that R.'s back, it's the work to gym to dinner pipeline that erases my evening. The way things are set up now, I don't really have free time on the weekdays and that's...sub-optimal. I'll really have to look at the ways I'm using my time so I can do more of the things I want to do. I don't like the idea of only being able to do hobbies on the weekends, but it's getting to that point.

For now, all I can do is the best I can while surviving the heat. That'll be my focus for the rest of the week. :)
