I Put The Good Ones on My Shoulder
Jul. 14th, 2006 05:24 pmI now have Coldplay stuck in my head.
Today it was a little difficult to get motivated; with Don gone to Nova Scotia for two weeks, we've had the afternoons largely to ourselves for a while now. In a lot of ways, this is simply tremendous. It allows us to *finally* get all of those fantasy projects we've been wanting to do for a year or so now done, and we've been making good time. Several sections have been culled and alphabetized, many of which we'd never be able to get to if Don were here. I could go into a big long spaz as to why this is, but I'll spare you that detail.
As a gesture of goodwill, I alphebetized Military History for Paul, and agreed to whip World War II into shape. As you might imagine, WWII is an absolutely ginormous section, divided up into many smaller ones: The Generals, The Holocaust, Fascist Europe, Hitler, The European Theatre, The Pacific Theatre, The Eastern Front, and so forth, and so on. Working in a bookstore will make you truly appreciate how many people think we need book no. 8,756,432 on Hitler. ("In this book, you will learn how having only one testicle will make you a psychotic dictator!") Anyway, it's a bit of a tall order, but this is our best chance in a few years to get a lot of problem sections into some kind of shape.
Since Mariah is doing most of the work I usually do anyway, it's good to find a niche to plug myself into for the next few weeks. It is my fondest desire to get Poetry and Arkansas/Kansas/Oklahoma/Missouri in good working order, but that's more than likely a pipe dream without the co-operation of Charles (and he won't cooperate).
In other news, I'm working on "Salvation" again; in lieu of writing up character sketches and all that I'm just writing strips directly, letting the characters say what they're going to say and define themselves. I haven't reached the point yet where things are growing their own legs, but I trust it will happen. The hardest part is the beginning; I've probably blown it up too much how important it is to set the tone, but I'm strangely comfortable with that. It's OK that I'm stressing out way too much about it, and I can't get into the setting just yet. That'll come with time, and I'm sure
lazarusrat will smack me down when he gets the first week's worth of strips or so.
By the way, I had conveniently forgot that
momentrabbit has a comic strip now. With cute rabbitses, natch! My life is now complete. :D Go look, and yours can be too!
Pimped out
writerrabbit to said ex-coworker from previous post, and I checked back over a lot of the poetry I wrote for NaPoeWriMo. You know, some of it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was. And now I can read a poem (from actual poets!) without grinding my teeth. I think it's time to start writing them again. ;)
But first, I need to finish a few critiques I had promised people (I'm still working on yours, Peregrine. |:)), and then maybe...wait, no, then I have to move halfway across the country. Damnit.
