It's hard to believe that in two days' time I'll be in the air on my way to Seattle and Rainfurrest 2013. I'm really looking forward to the convention this weekend; Ryan will be releasing his book (God of Clay) there and we'll be celebrating our fifth anniversary that weekend. It's also hard to believe that we were married just five short years ago. So much of my identity has become wrapped up in being a married man, and in surprising ways. Ryan grounds me in so many ways, and he challenges me to be more open with new experiences. I'm pretty sure without him, I'd be even more of a homebody than I am, and there are parts of the world I never would have had the chance to see. I'm so grateful for him, you guys; this time apart has helped me realize just how much I love him. Absence has definitely made the heart grow fonder in this case.
Today I'll be packing after work and cleaning up the house to get it ready for being unoccupied for the next several days. That probably includes polishing off a bottle of wine I opened on the weekend; it turns out cabernet sauvignon goes pretty well with professional wrestling. :9 But there are dishes to do, and work areas to dust and organize, bathrooms to clean up and so on. It'll be so nice to come home to a clean house on Monday evening; I might have to do a few extra things so that the hubby has a chance to decompress properly over the evening.
I really appreciate the feedback and conversations yesterday's post sparked. I'll definitely talk more about this as I try to organize my thoughts on my relationship with my family and home. Part of the reason I'm quiet about it is I'm sure I've talked about all of this before, and I don't want to journal in circles around it. When I say something, I want it to cut right to the heart of things. In the meantime, I'll try to concentrate a bit more on writing fluff, just to have writing out there, to be doing it. We'll see how I feel after work and cleaning.
