Sun Trumps Dark
May. 8th, 2007 11:42 amMy mood has been all over the place as of late, for a number of reasons. Things finally came to a head sometime Sunday evening, and
toob has been just amazing about everything. I really am lucky to have him, and I keep wondering what on Earth I've done to deserve such an awesome person in my life. :)
The Road was devoured pretty quickly, and it was one of those books that went in deep and stuck with me for a very long time after I've read it. It's extraordinary; the language is so simple, the events in the novel told with such understatement, that you really don't understand how affecting the motif is until you sit down to think about it. It's one of those novels I'm going to have to read again, when I'm in a better frame of mind. As it is, a lot of personal fears and neuroses have been triggered through this read, and I've been struggling to get through them all. So, if I seem weird and distant and extra flaky for a little bit, please don't mind me.
It's been suddenly extra hot in the Bay area, so much so that I was sweating like a stuck pig just...hanging around the apartment yesterday. What the hell? They're saying there's going to be a pretty dry and drought-ridden summer this year so we should probably stock up on water or something. I'm wondering if I could maybe get a bike helmet that funnels water directly into my mouth whenever I press my lips together or something. I'll buy it as soon as I fix the flat tire the bike has somehow acquired.
Writing has all but stalled and died, mostly because work has been kind of stressful. I haven't been able to sit down for an uninterrupted lunch break for a really long time; first because Julie was using the workspace and just couldn't be silent and now because our new media guy tends to ask a lot of questions, or someone needs to talk to me about some project for some section it was decided I was in charge of. Also, there's literally some big change or crisis every week that means someone can't do a job and they need to find someone to pick up the slack. For the past couple of weeks another new guy has suffered a pinched nerve and can't shelve any of his sections. The fallout has been dealt to me and another coworker, but that's not a good solution. So now it looks like I'll be handling the section for the forseeable future.
Just today I come in and find that the boss has changed the shelving for the section a great deal, telling me that the whole thing needs to be reorganized to make room for calendars. The section, cooking, is already overloaded and now I have to find a way to shrink it, and make it look better besides. For today, though, the stacks and stacks of books have to be gone from the floor. And could you cull and reorganize those before you put them on the shelves? That'd be great. :P
So...shortened lunch break or longer day? What a fun choice!
And now the new media guy is back, and he's blasting some kind of techno music in the workspace while I'm typing. Shortened lunch break it is!
