I'm reading Letters from the Earth from Mark Twain, which is an excellent series of short essays and fiction scraps collected by his estate. The titular set of fictionlets make it really difficult to reconcile a good view of God as He's presented in the Bible. I'm curious to hear what other people thought of it, especially those Christians out there. Are there any articles, criticisms or defenses of the accusations Twain posted? Hmmm, now I'm itching to dig around for counterpoint.

Is there a word that describes a word that can define itself? ('homework,' for example) If not, there should be! If there is, what is it??

Lost totally kicked my ass this week. Good lord and butter, that was a GREAT episode. *pant* It was also the lowest-rated one in the show's history, which is very unfortunate. Of all the episodes to miss, that one was probably the worst all season. Heroes and Supernatural are also stepping up their games in really satisfying ways!

I talked to [livejournal.com profile] lazarusrat about my story yesterday, and he had several great suggestions that I'll be trying out to see if they work. That, and the post DNA made about his own creative woes, have pretty much helped me out of my little funk about writing. I don't think I'll be writing *great* fiction any time soon, but...I really have to back off on the idea that I need to. If I can relax enough, I can let myself write as good a short story as I can, and that'll have to do.

Also, thanks, Voco, for the advice. It's yet another reminder to crack open that massive tome of fabulist fiction I have on loan from [livejournal.com profile] rikoshi.

Work starts now!
