jakebe: (Happy Bad Rabbit!)
Not that any of you might care about this; there aren't many I know that follow sports, and fewer still that follow tennis, but....

Amelie Mauresmo won a major for real this time! GO AMELIE!! :D

A bit of explanation: Amelie Mauresmo is a women's tennis player who has been good enough to be in the top 10 for the past few years, and even good enough to hang with the big girls (the Williamses, Justine Henin-Hardenne, Kim Clijsters, etc.), but was notorious for letting her nerves get the best of her. She'd choke horribly ever year in her native France for the French Open, and get similarly shot down in just about every other major. She was no. 1 in the world for a few weeks last year, despite having never *won* a major (the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, the U.S. Open), but when she couldn't seal the deal for a couple majors she dropped again.

The Australian Open, the first major of the year, was a small breakthrough. She won the final when Justine Henin-Hardenne retired in the middle of the match. True, she finally got a trophy, but...she didn't earn it, and a lot of people thought she hadn't really been tested throughout the tournament (her semifinal opponent also retired). So, she had a major under her belt and the no. 1 ranking again, but there was a big asterisk next to her name in a lot of people's minds.

Enter Wimbledon. Not an easy path to the final for her, she had to go through two top 10 players to get there, but she did it. And in the final, just now, she beat Henin-Hardenne for her second major of the year! That ranking she has is a little more deserved!

And even better, on the men's side, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal battle for the championship in a rematch of the French Open final. :) Hooray!

OK, enough about tennis, I promise!

In other news, my beloved otter and future roommates are moving into their new apartment today. Apparently it's not a very good one, which makes them feel kinda bad, and this makes me feel kinda bad. Though we're all going to be experiencing the same situation together, I do feel like a bit of an interloper and I really hope the crummy apartment doesn't create even more stress for everyone. Still, I'm not moving there for the awesome real estate scene; it'll be really good to be living with Tube, and Mat and Scott. Good luck with the move, guys. I wish I could be there to help.

I think to make things a bit easier, I might end up only taking one bookshelf's worth of books, and one bookshelf to hold them all. This means the gaming books and a few choice other things. I can see about a smaller computer desk once I'm there; right now I have an antique schooldesk I *think* might work if I take only one box. I sort of have to take the red steamer trunk, but I can hold more books, CDs and maybe even another computer box in that. In a lot of ways, it's liberating figuring out how to do without a lot of stuff you tend to accumulate. It's difficult, but good. ;)

Ah well, back to work.
