So I'm here in California, and [livejournal.com profile] toob is singing in my ear very distractingly. Life doesn't get much better than this. ;)

We went down to Santa Cruz today, to walk along the boardwalk. The sun was shining brightly over the water, and the waves were lapping at the shoreline just so, I could have sworn I was suddenly transported into a commercial for an 80s' Power Ballad collection...or herpes medication, take your pick.

We then went to this absolutely fucking amazing chocolate shop called Donnelly Chocolates. [livejournal.com profile] bamboofae and [livejournal.com profile] belly4you, I would have thought about bringing you back some, but...well, trust me when I say I would have eaten them before they ever saw Arkansas. I'm really sorry, but thankfully they can be ordered on-line, so I will make it up to you both sometime later. There was this smoky spice chipotle truffle that was just...you have to try it. Really you do. I'm beginning to think spicy chocolate is becoming a new obsession.

Yesterday, we went to see "Rent," which was strangely disappointing. I'm not sure if I'm just not a fan of the musical or what, but...eh, it's hard to get excited about the thing as a story. It has really very excellent songs, don't get me wrong; but there's absolutely no characterization (I never bought the whole thing about Angel, the bitchy-in-a-fun-way transvestite suddenly becoming a saint and beacon of friendship and love upon his death) so it's really difficult to swallow what you're being asked to swallow. I think, really, the songs are the most wonderful things. It's too bad there wasn't a strong musical for them to fit in.

Oh! And we got to go see a monarch butterfly nesting area, which was incredible. THOUSANDS of monarchs fluttering around the trees, nesting so close you could touch them...and then the family of rodents skulking around the forest floor eating them. I'm pretty sure there's a good parable for the fleeting nature of existence there, but I'm too blissed out on chocolate to really tie this together.

The plane wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. The ride was incredibly smooth the entire time, though landings are definitely the worst part. There's something about hearing the engines power down and watching the plane visibly slow while you're still in the air that's insanely nerve-wracking; the pilots, though, were really top-notch about everything.

So! I should head off and you know, kiss the boyfriend some more. A rabbit's work is never done.
