I'm in a short headspace with people today. Just carry over from last night...I'm tired of people being shitty with other people, and my tolerance for it is at an all-time low. On the other hand, I'm beginning to find the whole "I would love to talk to you, but damnit I'm just so popular!" excuse pretty amusing by now.

I wrote 500 words yesterday...well, 521 to be exact. I had a lot more in me, but by then I was distracted by cribbage and it was getting late. Tonight, hopefully I'll be able to get in a bit of writing before [livejournal.com profile] arlekin's game starts up.

Notes on cribbage: The August tournament is done World Cup-style, though there are only 22 players instead of 24. So, there are 5 groups instead of 6; 3 of those groups (the ones with seeded players) have four players, while the other two have five. Only the person with the best record in each group gets the automatic berth to the Quarter-Finals. Obviously, this gives everyone in the 5-person group a distinct disadvantage. The other three berths in the Quarter-Finals are determined in a wild-card round, where the people with the second-best records in each group get to duke it out. 5 people in a round-robin, with the 3 best records moving on. Then, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, and Championship Game.

I've played two of the people in my group (Group E), winning both matches 3-0. Stargazer, the person I beat in the Qualifying Round back in May, is also in my group; I took one game from her before she totally tooled me down with the next one. I tried my best to avoid a skunk, but it happened anyway. I'm extremely fortunate that skunks don't count in this tournament. Right now, we're sitting tied at 1 game apiece. Hopefully I can track her down to finish up the match, and to play the final opponent in my group, this weekend.

Pretty confident about the way the tournament is going; I think I should get into the Quarter-Finals all right, if not by winning the group then through the Wildcard Round. After that, who knows; I honestly got lucky a *lot* last time, especially with the Semi-Final match. There are quite a few people out there (top 10 players in the league, all) who are more skilled than I am...but I'd really like to repeat. We'll see how it goes.

Read a bit of Castaneda's Journey to Ixtlan yesterday at work, too. I flipped to the chapter where don Juan and don Gerano 'stole' Carlos' car and headtripped with him for a few hours before it inexplicably returned. It was pretty fascinating stuff. It's been a while since I've done the whole alternate state of consciousness, thing, too. I miss it. ;)

Anyway, nothing too exciting going on with work, though I suspect I'll be shelving a lot of books today and keeping quiet for a bit.
