Green Acre Monkey
May. 27th, 2005 05:22 pmSo, after a bit of finesse and jerry-rigging I managed to fix the schedule so that I have two days off again. Sundays and Mondays are now mine to do whatever I'd like. Whee! It will take me a little bit to get used to the oddity of not going to work on a weekday (it hasn't happened in three years), but I think I'll manage that just fine...especially since Odis'll be running his games on Sunday nights.
The first session of the new Pomervale chronicle starts this weekend, speaking of, and I'm excited and nervous at the same time. It's been a good few months since we've played, and what with the different night and new setting and everything I'm curious to see how it all mixes. I have faith in Odis to put out a really good game, but there's a small part of me that misses the sleepy little town of Pomervale already. Whatever we do won't really capture the feel of it, the really personalized stories of the characters, the small scale of the chronicle. What we were trying to do there wasn't so much saving the world -- just *our* world.
Now, when this new session begins all three of us will be at this big giant huge magical college called Arcanix. Odis has already impressed me with some truly bizarre visuals, but there seems to be quite a bit of intrigue going on with this new story; Delphi's character (a rat shifter) has developed a Dragonmark, and that has never happened before in the entire recorded history of Eberron. Judging from the introductory speech we got from the college's headmaster, the new chronicle already looks to be more complex and higher-powered than the last one by leaps and bounds. Not quite sure how I feel about that, or even if there's anything to feel *about*, yet. Odis has a knack for twisting plots in directions I wouldn't really expect, and he seems to delight in raping the ignorance of his players for all it's worth. :) To say the least, we're frequently surprised.
Looking forward to not doing much this weekend; tomorrow is the first Saturday I'll be working in a very long time and I'm not particularly looking forward to it. Everything I know tells me Saturdays are a bit insane, and chances are Don and Charles will need me on the floor too much to make a good shot at hiding in one of the many little bookburrows I've made for myself. So, I'll have to suck it up and try to keep my head in the midst of all the chaos. I can probably do it with a minimum of snapping, and if things get really bad I can head back into the kitchen to nibble on granola for a few minutes. :P At any rate, I doubt work will leave me in any kind of mood to head to the Beating later that night.
I'm thinking about hooking up Harvey and Carson (and an as-yet-unnamed third box and laptop) to a little mini-network for my room. Harvey will be my main computer, but Carson will be set up to be the media workhorse; games, videos, music and TV shows will be played there. Once he's all sussed out, I'm hoping to hold "You Don't Know Jack" tournaments in my room or something; the prize will likely have something to do with cookies, chocolate or cheesecake.
The third box will be, more or less, a file server/storage box, and my laptop (the name Petrie comes to mind) will be my roving unit, for when I need to write in a coffeehouse or Dickson St. or when I'm visiting friends. Delphi's been laughing maniacally since yesterday, because he's sure I've joined the dark forces of computer geekdom; I'm proud to say I've yet to visit Slashdot, though. ;)
Oh! And I guess I should start keeping better tabs on my weight. I'm not losing much and that's kind of worrisome to me; to be completely honest I haven't been exercising nearly as much as I should. My diet's improved quite a bit, though, and even when I've sunk to eating fast food I'm making more-or-less health-conscious choices. Still, there's always improvements to be made.
Other than that, I *really* want to run a game. I think previous disasters, though, and a somewhat unorthodox view on gaming itself, has doomed to me to being unable to find players.
