Turn The Key, Grind The Gears
May. 9th, 2005 11:34 amIt's a little bit sad that this is going to be so completely missed (what with the summer movie season upon us already), but if you're looking for an intelligent movie that doesn't feature a lot of explosions and plotholes, I'd wholeheartedly recommend "Crash." Al Sharpton says it's his favorite movie in a long time, and he's already seen it four times, but that's no reason to avoid it. It's challenging, insightful and beautiful, and it deals with one of the last great taboo subjects (racial stereotypes) maturely, without getting too preachy about it. I absolutely love it. Check it out.
Crystal and I were supposed to go see "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," but we changed our minds at the last second (a habit I developed, I guess, up in MN with
joshuwain), and I'm very glad I did. Now, I would like to see "Chrystal" before it leaves theatres; maybe I could persuade
vulturechick to split a cab with me or something so we can check it out one afternoon. Or maybe walk to and from the Red bus stop. Hmmm, there's an idea.
Still want to see "The Amityville Horror" and "Hitchhiker" as well; but those are more...any time movies. "Chrystal" and "Crash" are going to be the first to go once the summer movie season gets up into *full* swing.
Just so people don't have to keep going, "Hey roo/rabbit/raven/personthing." repeatedly, I'm officially a rabbit. Have been for a few months now. Just use rabbit, and I'll understand you. Really. :)
The Windows update didn't go as I had hoped; I realized pretty quickly that I was in a bit over my head, so I devoted most of Sunday afternoon to backing up the most important files on the computer and making sure it was in generally good working condition. Brian'll be coming by work to help guide me through the process. I'm not really ashamed to ask for help when I need it, especially for this. Better look stupid and be safe then try to look smart and *really* fuck things up later.
I'm sorely behind in my books right now, but that's to be expected I suppose. I wish I could have taken care of that a little yesterday, but eh... I'll just have to jump right on top of it when I head in today.
I'm getting the diet portion down of being fit; I'm eating less, and better in general, sticking mostly to water and tea, avoiding fatty foods and fast food unless I have a very specific craving. The exercise portion is something I could do a little better with. I tried running at night so there's less distraction and/or pressure before work in the mornings, and it's worked fairly well so far. I just need to get back in the habit.
Also thinking about taking up the Ten Grave Precepts in a bit more official capacity. I more or less follow the spirit of them, just not the letter all the time. ;) The vow not to use drugs and alcohol might be one I break on occasion, but I do it in good conscience. Also, lying is great fun as long as the person you're lying to knows that's what you're doing. :)
