I don't think I ever named this poem, and I don't think it will ever need one. I like it mostly as it is, but I messed with the last line because as it stood it didn't...ring right. Now it's closer, but I'm not sure if it's *right* where I want it to be.

******
In the midst of every fire
there is a seed waiting to awaken;
every snowflake carries with it
the threat of spring.
All darkness contains
its choice to end,
and it is for this reason
we can laugh
even when our heads are underwater
and our lungs can't spare the air.

So a check that I wrote for Mom got processed twice somehow. The second time it went through I got busted for overdrafting...which is bullshit. This also meant that the next check I wrote (also for Mom) bounced and I get called for overdrafting fees *again*. Suddenly I'm $100 in the hole though I had enough money to clear both.

As I'm walking out the door to get this taken care of, the phone rings. Guess who it is? Mom! Something went wrong with her Social Security check this month, so she doesn't have enough to pay rent or utilities. And guess who's writing her *another* check with money that's supposed to be going for bills, groceries (I'm tired of beans) and savings this week? I'll give you three guesses.

What the fuck? Can't we get a break? I can't be mad at her, but god-damn this situation sucks.

So after panic mode dies down...

Went to Arvest before work and got the whole thing straightened out with an absolute minimum of fuss. Just went in and said, "You know you guys processing a check twice and stiffing me with ludicrous overdraft fees is complete and total bullshit, right?" And this really nice lady checked my account and went, "You're right. It *is* bullshit. All fixed now, have a lollipop." And I left with a butterscotch sucker and a new appreciation for my bank. They might be owned by The Evil Empire Walmart, but they do a bang-up job with customer service.

Giving my mom the money isn't as big a deal as I'm making it out to be; while yes, all things being equal I *should* be taking care of my bills first, I consider her situation to be more desperate. My rent and utilities are paid for this month, and all that's left are student loans and amenities I can do without if I had to. They can hang back for a week or two regardless.

The main problem is this completely hoses my budget for the entire month of October. I spent the better part of two weeks here being poor (just ask Ryngs) so I could get ahead and save up for Australia and something like this comes along and puts me right back at square one. So I'll be poor for a little while yet with no padding to show for it. At least mom's somewhat out of the hole...for now. :P Seriously though, she's gotta move her ass down here.

Tonight: a fresh new episode of "Lost" to sink my teeth into, calling my mother to smooth things out and hopefully a good bit of writing. If I'm good, maybe I can steal a creamsicle from Virginia's freezer when she's not looking. :9

Oh, and on the way to work I saw almost a half-dozen blue jays just hanging about and doing their own thing. They're not all that uncommon here, but still they give like, warm fuzzies.

Bai Hu - Tiger!
Mythological Background: The tiger is associated
with strength and the desire for a challenge.
It is also associated with hope to win, or
rather, the blooming season. It is also linked
to meandering, or the ability to be in contact
with a lot of aspects. The tiger also stands
for war and soldiers fighting to the end, for
the sake of their country.
