Even If I Get A Little Bit Heavy
Jul. 26th, 2004 07:31 amOne of the sure signs I'm getting older, past the college-age/usual-twentysomething set, is the fact that VH1 has been an ever-increasing staple of my TV watching habits. Over the past two or three weeks I've been gorging myself on "I Love The 90s," (yeah, I've seen every single year by now -- except 99), "VH1 All Access," and "Celebrities A to Z." What's worse is that they're one of the few music channels that actually still play music, and I really *really* dig what they play. I've been kind of listening to my own stash or recommendations from friends for a long while, but now I'm digging folks like Maroon 5 and Modest Mouse. And they play the new Beastie Boys video, which adds several ticks in the cool category. Still; as I'm approaching 24 years old, there's more of a distinction between what I like and what's 'pop' these days. Don't even get me started on bands like Linkin Park and Nickelback.
I've also been digging a little more into stuff that I've come to be associated with, namely macrophilia, apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic theory, Buddhism and the like. I have every intention to sit down at some point and write about all of it, but I keep catching myself in smaller pockets of time that won't give me the room to expand my thoughts properly.
Got my bus tickets to Austin on Friday, so everything for the trip is pretty much squared away. I want to buy presents for a few people before I leave. I think I'll have a good bit of money in pocket before I leave, but this also means I'll have to stop spending so indiscriminately for a while. I've been trying to be better about money so I can save it for Australia, but man...it's just hard when there's company over and people want to do stuff, or I'm really itching for say, mini-golf or eating out with a friend and they have no money. :P I'm going to make a goal for myself; no spending money at all this week. We'll see if I can stick to it.
We'll also see if I can stick to the idea of writing every day.
