Friend, Be Merciful
Oct. 20th, 2003 10:39 amHey there, all...
Had a pretty good, productive weekend! I got a lot of work done in both Changeling games that I'm running (one on-line and one tabletop), and I feel confident enough to run them without burping too much if my players decide to go off the beaten path (and they will). I'm feeling comfortable now using the game more as a springboard for my own stories, tweaking rules and perceptions and ideas to fit my version of reality. It's an odd feeling, this confidance, but it feels very good.
I also got to work on critiquing a lot of things that I should have been working on long ago. Frenziewolf, Lazarus and Tube all have stories that I've read and honestly enjoyed, but I'm still getting the hang of being all nit-picky, which is why critiques are taking so long. I mean, I'm probably less well-versed in the art of writing than *all* of these people, what could I possibly have to say to them that would be useful? Still, I suppose looking through another set of eyes is always good.
I have an idea for another poem that I hope to work on this week, and I want to edit another for a contest a local zine is having. Top prize is $500; it'd be nice to think that I could take it, but nothing I've ever submitted locally has even gotten so much as a reply. <:) It's not that the poetry's bad, per se; people here tend to gravitate more towards attitude than earnestness, though. Slam poetry is all the rage. About a week to go until Ramadan begins. I've been stocking up on foods that I can make quickly and easily, along with a few basic essentials that I can throw together in versatile ways. I'm getting really excited about it, though I have to work very hard at being a bit more fixed on a schedule. Things I hope to accomplish this week: + Finish "The Last Day of Kerston Miller". + Edit "Donna". + Work on characters for "Salvation". + Restart on-line Changeling game. + Work on two poems. + Write comedy show thing for MFF. + Finish "Grey Warming Over". It's going to be a fairly busy week, but I think I can manage it. :)
