I Start the Day In The Usual Way
Sep. 8th, 2003 12:29 pmHey there, all...
I have this secret, guilty pleasure and habit that were brought out last night after I watched "Empire Records".
You know the really f*cking cheesy romantic moment when the guy and the girl have been chasing each other all movie finally get together in each other's arms and the guy says just the right thing at the right time that seals the deal? As much as I absolutely love to make fun of them, they too, make me cry. It's the same moment that's been told over and over and over again in a hundred different movies in a hundred different ways, but it's still just...beautiful, every single time. I never get tired of it. How could you? It's love. :)
The other thing is I have a tendency to go "How can I be more like *that* guy?" when I stumble on a character that I really admire. There's a fellow named Lucas in the movie who's a lot like the Beautiful Weirdo in "American Beauty" crossed with Ferris Bueller. He uses in-the-momentness to slide all up and down the situation, and you almost never catch him surprised. He just *rocks*. I caught myself 'trying him on' with customers today (he's a music store employee) and I immediately felt embarrassed. As much as it's become a sort of habit, I think I've kind of outgrown emulating. <:) Oh, and we noticed that there was the surprising use of a faerie birthright somewhere in the middle of the movie. One fellow puts on this really cheesy song by this third-rate pop star who's visiting the store that day, and within minutes everyone in the *entire* record shop was dancing. It was *blatant* use of the Gift of Pan; we have a satyr on our hands. It's amazing how you can still see fae in action today, if only you know what to look for. ;) I think I need to budget my money a wee bit better this month if I'm going to pay loans, save money *and* do Nice Things for people. Shouldn't be too hard; I think I have enough willpower now not to go blow money on the nearest neat thing. I *am* going to have to start buying clothes, though. And now, it's time for some microwaved fettucine alfredo.
