Hey there, all...

Just one of those days when you wake up in a pissy, nitpicky mood. A couple of things I didn't mind before just suddenly became a big deal. It's not so much the action themselves, but the principle behind the matter, what they mean that bothers me so much.

Little things, like putting someone else's name larger in something, or just not giving credit where it's due. Or paging "Hello" on-line and then promptly dropping off the face of the earth to be with folks you pay more attention to. Or false advertising a Buddhist Meditation Group when you're *really* a bunch of New Age folkies getting together to talk about chakras. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but damnit people, let me *know* before I head there expecting something else.

And fucking pop-up ads. God*DAMNIT* I hate any and all things that pop up this morning. Do you *know* how many times I've been interrupted by freaking pop-ups?

You know, I am far from cool, but it's morning like these that just make me feel like a festering pile that people would do well to avoid.

And now: The Friday Five.

Do you like talking on the phone? Why or why not?

Actually, yes! There's a romanticized view of it, I think, of imagining the person on the other end of the line, what they're doing, how they move around their space. It's like the bare bones of conversation that your imagination gets to flesh out. It's better than talking on-line, I think, because you can actually hear someone's voice, and that goes a long way towards empathizing with them.

Who is the last person you talked to on the phone?

[livejournal.com profile] aubrin, and that was to finagle a ride out of him. The last person I had an actual conversation with was [livejournal.com profile] blackfeather or [livejournal.com profile] lazarusrat...both people with mad phone skillz. :)

About how many telephones do you have at home?

Technically? Four. Three of my roommates have cell phones. I do not. But I *do* have a boring old cord-phone on my computer desk, that doesn't work because I have no phone connection at present. I'm working on it though.

Have you encountered anyone who has really bad phone manners? What happened?

You know, not really. I think the person with the worst phone manners is myself. ;D I frequently play jokes on gullible people who don't know I'm joking because it's easy to hide a laugh on the phone. It's quite rude, really.

Would you rather pick up the phone and call someone or write them an e-mail or a letter? Why or why not?

Even though I love phone conversations, I'm much more comfortable writing letters, because I'm just that kind of guy. Getting correspondence any old way is pretty groovy, though.

And just like that, I feel better.

The ride in to work was better than yesterday, after I realized that it was silly to be tense about things. Sometimes a ride to work is just a ride to work.

I think that reading too much of the "Bloom County" collection has melted my brain; I have the very strong urge to make Bob the emu (Milo's eccentric-genius roommate in ??Salvation??) more Bill-the-cat-like. I'm resisting, but I don't know how much longer I can hold out.
