Poem: Deep Down
Oct. 18th, 2002 07:50 amI've had Pam Tillis stuck in my head all week. Part of this poem is ripped off from a song of the same name. Sorry to all the fans, hurrah for plagiarism.
Can a country song be about a concept rather than a person?
Deep Down
Like the lightened scuff marks
of a country boy's shoes,
you're every little number
that's given me the blues.
A peaceful stare,
a baleful glare,
I've somehow managed
to see your smile
everywhere.
The only thing that's stopped
is the way things are.
I'd like to string your head
on every shooting star.
I'm walking down the path
forged by the tail of blazing tears
and I'm feeling more alive
than I've ever felt in years.
I've been walking round the edges
for one year and a single day
and my balls are being busted
I've forgotten where to lay
these calloused hands,
this broken man,
has lifted up his heels
and fallen where he stands.
But let's not forget to stop
with the way things are.
I'd like to paint your face
on the side of every car.
I know I've worked to lose you,
but there's somewhere
you're always gonna be found
deep down.
There's no use in telling you
everything I've been through.
There's been good times,
but not because of you.
The only thing that's been
is the way things are.
Thank God the bleeding's stopped
but there's gonna be a scar.
I know I'll go on pushing,
but you're always gonna be around
deep down.
