Hey there, all...

I had a turkey sandwich I made for lunch today, using new Swiss cheese I brought from the store...it's Sargento's, I think, instead of Kraft Deli Select.

I don't like it.

It tastes too much like pizza cheese...not something like Papa John's pizza cheese, either, but that really salty, heavy, we've-bonded-every-milk-molecule-to-at-least-two-molecules-of-grease pizza cheese that you get at fairs and maybe CiCi's. And I don't mind that kind of cheese, certainly, but not in a turkey sandwich. When you think of turkey sandwich, you think light, and healthy...not horribly fattening and sticky products with a few carnival games thrown in.

Hmm.

I've decided I should be more...aware, thoughtful and generally involved with people I consider really close friends. I've had this really nagging suspicion that I can be a distant bastard, and seem self-absorbed, so I'm going to work on changing that. At the same time, I think I'm going to cut down on a lot of...just hanging out that I do so I can get writing.

I've created a list! Since I'm new at this whole productivity thing, I've decided to start small:

Write the next two weeks of Boomer Express.
Get started on Attempt No. 5.
Write up an outline for the Spirituality 101 panel.

If I can cross off every one of those on my list, I'll be very happy.

I brought Radiohead's "Kid A" in with me to work today, and I really like it. I didn't think so much of it when I first got it, mainly because it was...kind of strange, a definite departure from what they had been doing. But when you kind of leave it alone, and come back to it with less expectations, you see more of what they're trying to do, as opposed to relating it with earlier stuff. And based on that merit, it's really a fine album.

A lot of people fault Thom Yorke for being whiny, or out-of-tune (or maybe I'm just out of tune when I sing it), and well...yeah, he can sound that way. But the reason it works so well is because each wail, moan and bitch is meant with every fiber in his being for that one sublime moment. Even in "Creep", the most overplayed song of 93 or so, that risen crescendo is like a big vocal geyser that just welled up suddenly and exploded all over, and it catches you completely off-guard and breathless for that moment. Kid A has a lot of those moments in "National Anthem," "How to Disappear Completely," "Idioteque" and "Morning Bell." Yorke's voice soars all over, and the landscape under him may be broken and depressing, but it's still soaring nonetheless.

Oh yes, there's a Mutants Down Under game tonight, too. Changeling summary and MDU summary will likely be up tomorrow.
