The Universe's Most Perfect Turkey Sub
May. 22nd, 2002 01:47 pmHey there...
I went to Lenny's Sub Shop today at work, and they are now my favourite sub place. They're even better than Subway! No knocks to the talented sandwich artists at Subway, but damn...
I had *the* perfect sub today. No, really. The meat was deli-sliced, piled to the perfect thickness along with tightly packed vegetables, olive oil, oregano and mayonnaise between two slightly-toasted, wonderfully crusty slices of wheat bread. If I were in the privacy of my own home, I'm quite sure I would have orgasmed. I want to light a candle and thank the spirit of this turkey, just for providing me with such a cosmically enriching bit of sustenance.
It was spectacular. :9
OK, onto other things.
I'm at work right now, by the way. My Excite fortune told me to "Just slack off today", so I'm doing just that. Of course, it's not too hard to get work done anyway; I'm working through an enormous volume of around 40 or so bound volumes of the American Rifleman magazine. It's the official journal of the National Rifle Association or some such, and this one guy collected them from, like, the late 1920s to the 70s or later. I mean, it's amazing. It's as good as a time machine. :) You get to see how the style of the magazine changed from year to year, how different things were from the 30s to the 40s to the 50s. Of course, seeing all the advertisements during World War II was a pretty big highlight...but most of the articles in the magazine just sort of pissed me off.
Anyway, I'm trying to get back into writing now that I've sort of got a new rhythm established. That rhythm is going to be broken again, since we're planning to move sometime in the next two weeks...but still, I'd like to have Attempt No. 5 done by then. The problem is just finding time, and avoiding the urge to slack off when I get home. Now I completely understand how people fall into ruts with 9 - 5 jobs. ;P
Made characters last night for the Mutants Down Under game. Delphinios, Aubrin and Ryngs are all playing, and I've finally got a semi-stable system to use, instead of the way too stupidly powerful Palladium system. It's a combination of Ryngs' home-spun system, tweaked for my setting, Palladium and the D20 System. Lots of things'll probably change throughout the course of the game, but hopefully it won't be too bad.
Tonight, we're restarting Twin Peaks! Starting with the original pilot and first 2 or 3 episodes, then we'll be watching about four hours of it every Wednesday until we're done. I'm sure we'll be broken several times, but since Owlkin is running the viewings this time, we're sure to finally finish it. ;)
I think that's about it for me...back to work!
