Poem: Earth (2 of 4)
Dec. 17th, 2001 11:22 pmEarth
For Wendell
I must have been so helpless
lying face down on the floor
How could I be so restless
You leave me always wanting more
You're my stability
and I'm your apathy
We're the ability
to test this something more
In all my dreams, I'm flying
with jet-black raven's wings
And there I see you lying
the one and only stable thing
I'm the basket case
inside your warm embrace
and when I see your face
I look back on everything
The long and lonely nightfalls
with you breathing in my heart
I've come to bless the rainfall
I know before they start
So many memories
The very tragedies
They're the very keys
to this grieving art
And so this contemplation
brings me home to roost
I follow all temptations
and I've left you feeling bruised
You've been my darling Earth
so warm and comfort-dirt
But I wish that you would learn
that Earth can fly a little, too
