Hey there, all...

Today...today I'm mellow. Not much has been happening, really. I had to work on a Sunday, so I couldn't run my World of Darkness game (feh). I worked with Melissa today, who's a pretty cool person. She takes all of my good-natured ribbing in stride, and I really appreciate her for it. She does bitch an awful lot, though...more than I do. I hope I don't sound like that when I go off. Ugh.

I'm trying to focus more on my writing and art, to forestall the blocks I see setting up; I've set a personal deadline of December 15th for "Three Miles Out", and January 1st for "Winner Take All," two stories I'm writing for HistoriMorphs and the New Tibet sequel, respectively. Hopefully, despite the craziness of the holiday season, I'll be able to make those.

I've also got at least three macrophilic short stories I'd like to make before the end of the year, and we can't forget 'gifts' for Christmas. Yup, at least I can't say that I'll *ever* have a lack of things to do up until this coming January. :)

"Three Miles Out" is proving to be a pretty damned difficult story to write. It's about the September 11th bombing and all that, reactions to it and one rat's dazd journey through the changed New York at the time, before all this stupidly mindless patriotism set in. Unfortunately, it didn't take too long for that to set in, though. :/ I have a rough outline, but my main problem is trying to make the story believable and effecting without making it trite, stupid or exploitive. I've seen some of the stories people have done (The West Wing, Third Watch) with the whole "ripped-off-the-headlines" angle, and it totally sucked. It was all bullshit...when it comes right down to it, I don't think anyone can really capture the horrific nature of the events accurately.

So what am I doing?

I feel I have to give it a go, at least. The greatest artists were always willing to risk that big failure in order to get that one story...of course, I *am* over-thinking it. I think I just need to get inside this rat's head and just see the world through his eyes.

Erm, in other news, I'm trying to learn how to draw. I drew a ketchup bottle in a diner the other day that wasn't half bad. :) Now if I could only do that to faces and bodies without mutilating them, I might be able to make a decent hack at this comic thing after all. :)

The website'll be worked on, too, this week. I'll have graphics done by MFF, ready to be scanned by the time I come back. Oh yeah, and I hope to be getting glasses too! Hurrah for me...

That's it, I guess. :)
