Poem Submission #1: Montgomery's Dishes
Jul. 30th, 2004 08:19 amSo, I like this one pretty much as is. There's one specific line that still doesn't have the right ring to it (can you guess which one?...and no, it's not 'every'), but otherwise I think this is submission-worthy.

Montgomery's Dishes
Montgomery's in a bad way.
Thirty years now,
pouring himself into a woman,
knowing she'd catch it,
knowing she'd keep it all.
He just found out she was a drain.
Even after all that
he kept going until he was exhausted
and she said
"I'm sorry but I'm still not full."
So she ripped herself out in a big hole
of shattered silverware and fruit peelings.
Montomgery's in a bad way;
he's confused because he's got no place
to pour into --
even if she was only a pipe,
at least he had some place to go.
