I *still* have that Counting Crows song stuck in my head. Damnit, Adam.

Yesterday I had to work, which was no big deal. Having to work on the last shopping weekend before Christmas on the other hand...

The Bookshop is the only place I've ever worked (besides the Nature Company) where I enjoy the holiday rush. Everyone was getting these really cool books that you could sit down and have a 30-minute conversation about. Despite the urge, I kept relatively quiet. We did over three times normal business on Sunday, which is just amazing. :)

Celebrated the Solstice (sort of; I missed most of it because of recording 2 Sense) with Reah, Virginia, Chaser and a fellow named Alan. Virginia is surprisingly generous; I got "2000 Most Challenging and Obscure Words," a little pendulum-ball-perpetual-motion thingie, and a $20 gift certificate to Passages, this little New Age/eclectic shop in town. There's so much I could spend the money on, but I think I have my heart set on a little meditating dog figurine I saw there.

Sherri got me a miniature calligraphy kit that I'll have to sit down and use this week (maybe on Thursday) and a book called Buddhism Without Beliefs. I think Toob would like this book a whole lot, so when I'm finished reading it I think I'll spread the love. I got The Annotated Oz and a kangaroo figurine from Chaser, and an 80-piece tool set from Thames, a fur out in Greenland: a not-so-subtle hint to get started with my car. ;)

I also got cards from Blackfeather and Dad; thanks a lot guys, you're awesome. :D Sherri and Virginia seem to have liked the gifts I got them, and I'm thinking of all the buying and wrapping I still have to do. A lot of presents will be late this year, since I'm still getting out from under some financial wonkiness after the con. Blargh.

Today is the actual Winter Solstice, so have a happy one folks! Xydexx was kind enough to inform folks that today is also Life Is Meant to Be Awesome Day, and immediately I thought up a poem for it. I'm trying to make it not suck quite as bad, though, so it'll have to wait until later.

Changeling this evening, followed by dishes, shaving my head and probably a small ritual of some sort to mark the passing of the season. Hmm...I have more to say about the need to ritualize things, but as usual it will have to wait. :)

It's time for me to be a book elf. Happy Holidays. :)
