Hey there, all...
So I was going to order lunch like a pirate for the whole "Talk Like A Pirate" Day thing, but my coworker completely sabotaged it. Blah. :)
I've been seriously impressed with this 'new' writer I've discovered; it turns out his name popped up on a kangaroo-themed mailing list I'm on and we have a signed first ed. of the book that made so many waves, along with a first ed. of the next book he wrote. The books are "Gun, With Occassional Music" and "Amnesia Moon." The author is Johnathan Lethem. If you see him, get these too books! Sci-fi told in a noirish style, very cool. :) "Gun" even has a kangaroo in it, even though he's a bit of a punk and he totally gets his ass kicked. :/ The cover makes it worth it for that alone, though. There's something about a kangaroo with a cigarette dangling from his muzzle, holding a glass of whiskey that's tremendously endearing. I want to buy them both, but "Gun" is $75 and "Amnesia Moon" is $24. I think I'll buy "Amnesia Moon" and depend on the kindness of strangers for "Gun".
I *am* buying a very wicked edition of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," though. They've kept the original typeset, and the line and plate drawings are the same as a much earlier (1908?) edition. Everything just looks damned cool. Now all I need to get is that ed. of "The Wind in the Willows" from Hasting's, and maybe a nicer set of the Chronicles of Narnia, and hardcovers of Harry Potter, and I should be set with children's lit for a while. <:) Combined with the car and the clothes, I'm turning into a right materialist bastard. :P Saw three more episodes of "Dead Like Me," and the show's growing on me. :) And...now it's time for pizza.
