Support the Girdle
Apr. 30th, 2003 09:42 amHey there, all...
That poem was my 400th LiveJournal entry. Imagine that... o.O I've also had one of these puppies for about 19 months and some change. I missed my one year anniversary by a bit. Amazing.
I think
seph_ebonblade mentioned that he thought people were just using their LJs as a soapbox to bitch, or a bulletin board to post what was great, and never giving themselves the opportunity to expose what they're *really* like. It's a common thing; I've seen LJs use for 'political' ends, for sympathy-magnets, for all kinds of other things I'd generall consider, well, pathetic. And admittedly, I've been less-than-completely-honest about my own Journal usage here and there. <:)
LiveJournal is a medium unlike any other. It's one of those few places where you can be legitimately honest...well, where you're *supposed* to be legitimately honest...but still be within the public eye. There's an odd sort of balance you have to maintain if you want to be true to the ideal; which is openly revealing your thoughts and feelings while recognizing there's an 'audience' out there reading it.
A lot of people don't use LJ for that, and that's fine. For me, it's been a pretty wonderful tool for scratching down my feelings on something other than brain tissue; I can think a lot more clearly because I have some place to 'hash things out', so to speak. Not to mention I've made some great friends doing it.
So um...here's to LiveJournal!
