Who is your favorite celebrity?

Being a pop culture-whore, I really don't have any elaborate definitions of what defines celebrity. It's pretty much whoever's famous, for whatever reason. Anna Nicole Smith, God help us all, is a celebrity. So is Monica Lewinsky, so is George Bush...so is Greta Van Sustren. This is a very sad state for our news media to be in. :P

Anywho, favorite celebrity. I have a lot; I suppose my favorite celebrities are people who don't act like they're celebrities. People are passionate about the work they do, not the social circus they're in. Tori Amos, Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Eddie Vedder(? - Pearl Jam), Rufus Wainwright, even Jim Carrey. Shakira (yes, the belly dancing blonde from Latin America) has a surprising amount of depth to her, even. But even still, I look at celebrities as people, not as public personas, even though in large part that's what they are. I'm not really sure I could pick a favorite.

This got really jumbled, hmm? :) Screw it, let's just say Nathan Lane. :)

Who is your least favorite celebrity?

There are a lot of absolute turds in celebrity-dom, but the fellow who takes the cake, I'd say, is Michael Jackson. It's so sad to see what he was vs. what he's become. He's one of the few people where you can clearly see how celebrity has just destroyed him...think of the music he could be making if he had just hung with us on planet Earth for a little while longer. :P He's a genius, but he won't be remembered for that. That's a damned shame.

Have you met any celebrities in real life?

Hmm, the closest I've ever come, really, is actually meeting with Suzanne Lori-Parks, who won a Tony and a few other prizes last year for her play, "Topdog/Underdog." We were performing "The America Play" in college, which interestingly enough *also* had a black Lincoln impersonator, and she came down to discuss the play with the actors and audience. She's a really fascinating person. :)

Would you want to be famous? Why or why not?

There was a time when I wanted to be famous. *Really* wanted it. Now, after seeing the kind of...attitudes and situations celebrity creates, hell no. :) I couldn't stand to be talked about, rumored about, admired or hated, etc. etc. based on what these people thought they knew about me. It's a wholly uncomfortable existence, it is. The only merit it could possibly have was to be a platform to voice issues that I thought people might need to hear. Give me private, unnoticed life any day.

If you had to trade places with a celebrity for a day, who would you choose and why?

Well....hmmm. Mr. T. Come on, do I *really* need a reason? :D
