I Am An Ass
Hey there, all...
I bitched, and bitched, and bitched...moped around, and bitched some more.
And I had the best birthday ever. :)
I woke up around 10:30 to call into work yesterday; Ryngs and Silver were supposedly treating me to mini-golf and a tea set if I didn't go into work. So, I called in, said my friends had a surprise for me (ooh, foreshadowing!), and asked if I was needed in that day. Well, Charles almost immediately went in on the attack. After a couple minutes of being chewed out ("You need to decide whether or not you're going to work here."), I had the day off and a pretty bad attitude.
I hopped on-line for a few hours, waiting for Ryngs and Silver to wake up...Silver didn't until around 4, and I could have gone to work and been home by then. Needless to say, I was rather upset about this, but Silver got me in a better mood by the time we went out (sans Ryngs) to find a tea set.
You will never believe how insanely hard it is to find a tea set in Fayetteville. We went to around half a dozen stores and all of them pretty much pointed to one final place: Bed, Bath and Beyond. We went in there, ogled some really neat stuff (they have the coolest coffee makes and tea kettles I've ever seen), and boggled at some of the most useless crap ever (who in the world needs an electrolyte-supported bathroom scale??). We spent what must have been a good 30 minutes in there, and in the end we had to go to the cashier to get a clerk to help us. She searched for a few minutes, and then informed us that they didn't have any tea sets either. Ghah!!!
So, head hung low, I asked Silver for a smoking pipe and dinner instead. We went to a really neat tobacconist in-town, and asked her to give us the spiel on learning how to smoke a pipe. She was really cool, and getting started was a lot cheaper than I thought! A really nifty, long-stemmed smoking pipe, pipe cleaners, a tool and an ounce of tobacco cost around $30...and dinner was less than $10.
Already, I was having a most excellent birthday. Silver's a lot of fun to hang around, and I hadn't really done much of that with him. We talked about a few things, and generally just got silly. Hurrah!
Anyway, he called Delphi at around 6 to make sure an errand was run or something, and I talked to him to ask if there were people there for the game I was planning to run. He said yes, and take your time...we're all just hanging out.
We got Sonic and headed back to the house...and when I stepped through the door everyone yelled "Surprise!". I was admittedly very confused. It was very certainly a surprise. :) I looked around the room and saw 2, Ryngs, Delphi, Aubrin, Arlekin....
And Blackfeather.
Suddenly, it became the coolest birthday in the history of mopey little boys. :) I was in a daze for the rest of the night, even after I opened my presents. I got a copy of "Dreams and Nightmares"(!) from Blackfeather, a really neat necklace, a bottle of sake from 2, my own Creme Savers(!) from Ryngs and a pack of Old Spice deodorant towels from Aubrin. The bastard.
I'm so incredibly lucky to have friends such as NARFA, and elsewhere on the Internet. I cannot thank you all enough for making my birthday one of the most memorable days ever. You guys rock. :D
Came in to work today, and Charles went from telling me to find another place else to work to telling me he's cutting Bernadette from the Internet business, and it's my show. He also said he'd be willing to look into seeing what we could do on eBay.
Oy...talk about mixed signals. It looks like my job is secure though...for now.
I tried my pipe a couple times since I got it. The first time was a pretty good smoke, even though it took me forever to learn how to light the thing. The second time was even worse, because I think I might be packing the tobacco too tightly. I'll probably try it again tonight or tomorrow just to test it again; I don't want to smell like a smoker just yet, and Blackfeather has asthma. <:) At any rate, my mood is improved considerably, and I'm making the resolution to never bitch about my birthday again. Be thankful, folks...I am. ;)
