The Chance That Makes Things Right For Her
Hootie and the Blowfish's Musical Chairs is a far superior album than I remember it being. It won't leave my head.
Work has eased up a little in the past week or so. Charles had a fairly good day, today, too. I'm a very project-oriented worker; I need to have something to devote the entirety of my focus on to be comfortable and feel productive. Charles hates projects and would like us to avoid them at all costs, instead changing sections slowly over time, bit by bit. It's going to be very difficult to find a compromise between those mindsets, but now that I know that's where the bulk of our problems lie, I can start chewing on a solution.
It's been unseasonably warm so far this autumn, which makes me very much unhappy. 80 degrees in November? Even for Arkansas, that's...quite unusual. To me, it's evidence of global warming in action. To most other people, it's a good excuse to not mothball their t-shirts for a few more weeks. For some reason, "Sleeping In" by the Postal Service keeps popping up between Hootie setlists ("Now we can swim any day in November...").
Brought the plane tickets for the vacation! Now it's locked in. Whew, there's this whole weight lifted off my shoulders knowing I'll actually get to see my lovely otta and the most awesome rat ever in three short weeks. As such, I've made it a goal to lose 10 pounds before I step on the plane. Target weight: 158. Yes, if you've been keeping track, I've gained 3 pounds since hitting 165. I'm a bad rabbit.
In the absence of a game by Odis...or any game I'm playing in for that matter, my Gurahl character for Cy's Werewolf game is getting star treatment. ;) I'm going to be setting up a fictional LiveJournal for him shortly with the name most likely being 'smileydan'. I need an icon of a bear in a military helmet.
There's a lot I want to explore through the journal, mainly Dan's thoughts on what exactly is going on. The Gurahl view of the Apocalypse isn't talked about at all in WW canon, and I like the idea of chewing on what's causing the Changing Breeds to fail so utterly in their mission from an 'outsider's' perspective. Since the Gurahl are massive, 18-foot-tall hippies who only *really* get pissed about dancing (don't ask), no one really asks them what they think about things. As such, they're probably the biggest voices of reason in the World of Darkness (save for, perhaps, the Mokole). Art imitates life, I guess.
In terms of character development, Dan is moving from his 'cub' phase to his 'warrior' phase in the game. To get more of a lock on what that will be like, I'm having him read stuff like Sun Tzu's The Art of War and The Path of the Sacred Warrior by Chogyam Trungpa. As such, *I* have to read these things. They've been on my list for a bit now and I finally have a good 'excuse' to crack them open. So far The Art of War has instilled a strange urge in me to become a Western Confucian, complete with strict codes of morality and conduct for every occasion and wear nothing but crisp and pressed three-piece suits. Maybe I could spot
brokkentwolf at a con one day and we could have a Confucian vs. Taoist fight to the death. Someone would have to bring the appropriate battle music, though. I doubt I could pull off the stodgy but hot dignified gentleman bit; I don't quite have that assuredness of movement (or the grey hairs) just yet. Is it wrong that I *want* grey hairs?
Buffy and Angel tonight. The fifth season of Buffy kicks so much ass, and more than makes up for the crapfest that was fourth season (Adam has to be the biggest joke of a villain ever; who can be afraid of a man who has a 3.5" floppy drive for a heart?). The whole 'key' angle with Dawn was pulled off well (methinks he was inspired by the "Amazing Johnathan" episode), and the storyline with Buffy's mom is...oof, getting more and more difficult all the time. Also, Spike is officially adorable when he's in love.
Angel is trucking along pretty well; it found its legs faster than Buffy did, but it still has its kinks. Gunn is *not* a believable street character, and it's pretty obvious that the writers know nothing about "the 'hood," but I like him anyway. He has this urban paladin vibe going that I dig.
This weekend, I hope to get started on writing, and catch up on reading people's NaNoWriMo efforts. For the record,
joshuwain isn't human; anyone who can be 70% towards 50,000 words *already* and still pull down a full-time job deserves a Coke and a handshake...or the cyborg equivalent thereof. Really awesome work, Mr. David. :)
