Stranger With A Door Key
And the hits just keep on coming: Heidi found my Interpol CD at work, where it had fallen into one of the many bags we've got going there at the Bookshop. I listened to it again last night for the first time in two weeks. Whee, music is good. :)
Earlier this week I installed a CD-RW drive for the first time. I had to admit I was more than a little intimidated since I didn't really know what to expect. Once I got the cover off and saw how everything was connected, though, it really couldn't have been easier. So I know a fairly basic bit about how the different parts of a computer connect together and all that. And that it seems to be universal that power supplies are a pain to work around.
Delphi came over yesterday to help me install Linux on my computer. I had changed the cables to the CD drives the day before, but when we went for the install the same problems popped up before. We *still* don't know whether it's the drive or the disc, but we were able to download what we needed from the Internet, and now Ubuntu's all happy and stuff. I'm really digging it so far; it's amazing to me that everything you can get for Linux is free, and there's no annoying registration or sending in e-mail or whatnot. It's just "Oooh, I want that!" and you get the appropriate packages. Delphi talked it up over lunch, about how much the idea in general has survived since it's original incarnation. I'm very impressed with the community, the innovation and the help. I think I might stick this out for a while. :)
In other news, missed the new episode of "Lost" because I have to work on Wed. nights now. :/ Fortunately, Belly taped it for me, so I know what I'll be doing this weekend. :)
I'm going to try to install Win2K on the computer at work this Sunday, and I might be guilt-tripped in to coming in to help on Saturday for a few hours. This'll be great for building up hours for any trip I want to take, but probably not so great for, you know, not burning out at work. Today, I want to fill the Internet orders, check backstock for the Civil War section, and put books out. :) Shouldn't be too hard to make that little set of goals.
Reading "Mother Night" by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. It's pretty amazing so far; there are, as usual, several quotables (a lot of which I don't necessarily agree with, but they sound nice regardless), and Vonnegut proves himself just...a whiz at writing well, anything. The sentences kind of lean on one another so that you *have* to read the next one, and the next, and the next. It's so easy to get wrapped up in him. It's very, very flowing but so earthy it's quite easy to grasp even the double- and triple-meanings. *gushgushgush* Excellent writing. :)
There's other stuff, but I shall have to cut this short. Work and all. ;)
